How do I grow Peanuts in the UK?

I have got a peanut plant started, now 10" high, lots of yellow flowers.

How high will it grow, what temperature/conditions does it need.

When will there be peanuts ready to dig up/harvest from it.

How do I grow Peanuts in the UK?

Reply:the same way everyone else grows them
Reply:As I recall, my grandpa's peanuts were okay.... they were like a ground running stalk, mostly right beneath a layer of dirt, we pulled them up in a bunch.... i think.
Reply:I don't think they will grow in UK,anyway from what I hear most people are allergic to them............
Reply:I would never have even thought of growing peanuts, thanks for that! You could try putting them under low tunnel cloches. I'm going to search the net for more info.

Is it alright to use Red, yellow, orange and brown as colors for fall based wedding thx.?

I was thinking Ivory for a wedding the wedding dress.

I was thinking Chocolate brown bridemaid's dresses with red (cherry red or Apple red) accents.

Flowers will be orange, yellow, and red

I'm thinking the flowers would be Alstroemeria, roses, lilies, orchids.

Place settings - Will be brown, yellow, %26amp; orange.

I know its not really that precise....I still have time till the wedding.

Is it alright to use Red, yellow, orange and brown as colors for fall based wedding thx.?
Those are traditional fall colors so it is perfectly acceptable to use them if you wish. It's your wedding so you decide what the decor and colors will be.
Reply:it sounds beautiful and i agree with the gold accents!! i love the idea because it is different....i got married last june and the 3 main colors were red, white, and black...but had hot pink, orange, and yellow accents....congrats. seems like you are on the right road!!
Reply:I am going with dark brown, burnt orange, and deep red for my colors for my sept. 20th wedding this year. I never thought of using yellow, but I think it will be very pretty.

Good luck!
Reply:A friend of mine held a fall wedding for her daughter and it was absolutely beautful.!

She bought pumpkins and carved out (in callifgraphy letters) the married last name (one letter on each pumpkin)\

It looked like something out of a designer's mag.
Reply:Wow, that sounds beautiful! I love the color scheme! And the flowers sound absolutely beautiful! I agree that some gold accents would be nice. May I also suggest some pumpkins maybe? Some leave would also be nice.
Reply:Wow! very very creative! sounds amazing - but really who cares what others think - it's your wedding - do whatever you want and have fun with it! i think it's awesome! good luck and congratulations on getting married!
Reply:sound beautiful. I just did the photos for a wedding last fall that used these colors for the flowers. It was beautiful
Reply:That's a very nice color scheme. Congratulations on your wedding!

Reply:yes, these all are fall colors, i like it.
Reply:That sounds awesome! Maybe put in a few gold accents?
Reply:Those are wonderful colors for the fall! nice and warm!!!
Reply:That's fine ... sounds like you're going for the classic Autumn Leaf color palette.

I found a yellow mass in my garden. It looks like vanilla pudding.?

I was planting flowers and this yellow glob was about 4" down in the dirt, it was about 6" long, and 4" thick. It resembles vanilla pudding only thicker. There was nothing over or under it but dirt. It had no smell. Did I come across some kind of egg sack, fungus or what!!!

I found a yellow mass in my garden. It looks like vanilla pudding.?
It is called "mother" - the root mass for fungal growth of some sort. The mushrooms or other fungus that appear above it are the "fruit" of this mass, rather than the item itself. I would wrap it in plastic and put it in the trash - yuck.

OR - if you are near a river, there is a chance - if this is very wet stuff, that you just opened a turtle's egg burial. Snapping turtles will climb up a long ways from the water's edge and sometimes do bury their eggs. sometimes in yards or gardens. But normally you would have seen some disturbance of the soil over it beforehand, since they work their shells down into the soil in order to lay the eggs, then bury them afterwards.

I have a plant that is growing would like to know if it is a shrub? It looks like my shrubs & has yellow buds?

I planted seeds last fall from my shrubs and these came up. They look like beginner shrubs but they have a yellow bloom at the end of each stem. the leaves are pointed needles like on my shrubs but my shrubs dont flower. I am stumped and think this might be some other type of flower and it just resembles shrubs.

I have a plant that is growing would like to know if it is a shrub? It looks like my shrubs %26amp; has yellow buds?
This question has gone a week without an answer. Chances are that it is what you think it is, expecially since you planted the seeds. Without a picture, it is impossible for anyone to give you a definitive anwer. You may want to post a photo to the web and provide a link and resubmit your question.

Good luck with your gardening.

What would be a good wedding color flower palette for this theme?

The colors in the wedding are grey and yellow. But, it is not a bright flashy yellow, but a soft butter type of yellow. A lot of the yellow flowers we see are super bright yellow, and we don't want that. Any suggestions? The bride is looking toward yellow roses, but again, doesn't want a bright yellow to blind people. It is an outdoor rustic wedding in the summer in South Dakota.

What would be a good wedding color flower palette for this theme?
Since it an outdoor, rustic wedding, I would consider a wildflower bouquet. Pale yellow buttercup, smooth yellow false foxglove, moth mullein, or yellow stargrass, as the main/feature flower wth complimentary wild flowers and greenery tied with a flowing ribbon.
Reply:roses can come in a very "muted" yellow. it's softer and pale.
Reply:yellow roses would be beautiful, also yellow tulips or daisies always look good...yellow calla lilies would be great too....there are just so many great choices, you should go and see a florist they would be able to help you best.
Reply:She needs to get in touch with a professional florist. Not an FTD florist but someone who knows what they're doing.

Flower suggestions that come in varyong shades of yellow: sunflowers, daffodils, tulips, jsut to name a few.
Reply:there are different kinds of yellow daisies. Even the white daisy with yellow middle would look so pretty and classic.

I like tulips because they are simple looking. The simple-ness would tone down the color by default.
Reply:Well, since grey is in there, you could go with pale yellow Iris, lavander Iris, and yellow and lavander hydrangea.

Are you using silk? If not, you'll either be limited by what's growing locally at the time, or have a huge bill for out of season flowers.

If silk, you could go with pale yellow jonqils and ivy.

How about silk forsythia?

How about little nosegays of yellow and blue violets? Tied with grey ribbons.
Reply:any yellow is great, but beware of the grey - it will look all 80's and drab and dated...

I suggest looking at some white/off-white flowers to help with your yellow. Take a look at some varieties of tulips and lillies. There are some that are paler and not so bright. If it is outdoor, try supplementing centerpieces with fruit that might be that pale color.
Reply:How about yellow frangipanes? Not sure if they are in season for you at that time though.
Reply:What about some yellow cymbidium orchids? They are soft, subtle and very beautiful, like these:

Hmm, starting to think about what flowers to do for my wedding?

I'm getting married in July at the New York Botanical Gardens, and just ordered my dress today, which will take six weeks to come in. My six bridesmaids are going to be wearing the same style dresses, just in two different colours. Three will wear lilac, and three will wear light yellow. What kinds of flowers should I use for centerpieces and the bridesmaids bouquets... and what colours would look nice with the dresses?

Hmm, starting to think about what flowers to do for my wedding?
Orchids would be nice... especially in the bright purple, some of them have yellow stamens. Um... Purple Iris' they would look GREAT. hydranga are great fillers, and available in yellows. daisys are very old school and classic (often overlooked in bridal flowers but SO pretty)....

i think either dark or light shades of purple and yellow would be bring out your colors. Perhaps allow the girls were purple dresses to have bouquets that are mostly yellow, and the yellow ones have mostly purple.
Reply:What about something like the one attached.

You could use the purple ones for the girls with the yellow dresses and then have ones done up in the yellow for the girls with the purple dress. Because they are contrasting colors they would look good together.
Reply:The knot.com has the best online gallery of flowers. There are two galleries, one is their own gallery and the other is "real weddings". You do have to register, but this is really the only website I've found to be helpful.
Reply:Wow you dress is only taking 6 weeks?!?! Mines going to take 4-6 months.

You should go interview florist and see what ideas they have. I had ideas before I went to interviewed some florist and then I was looking through one of the florist portfolio and threw most of my ideas out the window because I feel in love with the ideas she had.
Reply:Do you like Daisies!!!

Our daughter-in-law used daisies and long ribbons. The ribbons for the bridesmaids could have the colour of their dresses and yours could be white.

She also used daisies to decorate the pews. They had white toille draped from pew to pew up the aisle with white twinkle lithts and daisies in them. It is very effective and not expensive.

It is a good idea to have low, small centrepieces; maybe a pillar candle on a mirror with daisies around or some small flower. There are many wholesale flower dealers around. Just check online in your area.

Daisies are more reasonably priced than just about any other flower and they last through the entire day. They will look great with the colours of their dresses. You may like to have white tablecloths over lilac table skirts.

Hope these ideas are a help.
Reply:Gorgeous colors! I think you'd be able to get the same bouquets for all of them. I'm thinking lavendar and yellow roses http://www.windsorflower.com/catalog/ima...

, or purple callas and yellow roses, or vice versa. You can get yellow and purple lillies.Freesia comes in many colors including purples (all shades) and yellow. I would offset everything with some touches of white or ivory.

For centerpieces, have you considered maybe a bowl of lemons or yellow apples, with purple flowers, like this but different flowers:

http://interiordec.about.com/library/gra...

You could float waterlillies in bowls of water with tea lights around it.

Depending on what you plan to do for favors you could plant yellow and purple pansies in colorful pots to decorate the table with and act as your favors as well.

What kind of flower is this?

I saw this in an old issue of Better Homes %26amp; Gardens while waiting for the doctor. The best way that I can describe it, is that it looked like a brown stick that branched out and grew very small, yellow flowers. I thought it was beautiful, and I want to have it painted in my room, but I need to find a picture of it in order to do so. If it helps at all, a common theme in this room was Asian decor and Asian flowers. Please help! Thanks so much.

What kind of flower is this?
Sounds a bit like an orchid or a Forsythia.

In a wedding, what color flowers would go with navy dresses?

I am getting married in July of 2007. I have my bridesmaids wearing navy but am totally stumped on what color flowers to have. Initially I was going to go with yellow and white flowers calla lilies and roses. I keep looking at it and feel like I need to go with more color or just stick to white flowers. I just am not sure I like the yellow as the stand out color by itself. any suggestions?

In a wedding, what color flowers would go with navy dresses?
There's 2 color combos that I love with navy

1. The deep deep yellow of spider mums and roses

2. Pink in any flower
Reply:Navy is a very dark color (like black) and so any splash of color looks good with it. The white is definitely a nice contrast, but the yellow should be nice as well. I wouldnt do yellow without white to offset however.... some people's skin tones dont like yellow.
Reply:Get red roses and white lillies and Yellow. Go with multiple colors and it will make the bouquet even more gorgeous!
Reply:actually, light orange/pink would be nice too. :) especially because it is summer.. good luck, im sure it'll be Beautiful~~
Reply:bright pink, yellow and orange!
Reply:Go with the white color
Reply:Red, white and light blue.
Reply:Red roses would be beautiful against the navy dresses. Or just a creme colored flower.

Best Wishes.
Reply:I think cream goes well with navy.Good luck.
Reply:Navy is really neutral. I would do a variety of colors. But if you are looking for just one, I think that yellow would be great.
Reply:White, or off white
Reply:Actually, white roses may compliment, but look into Hydrengas, Iris, Orchids, and delphiniums. To name a few...You want the richer blue to accent the arrangements with lighter colors in the background. The actual arrangment should be thought through depending on the linen arrangements for the tables.
Reply:I think a splash of mixed colours looks beautiful for a summer wedding - I've tagged some bouquet ideas for you to have a look at - I also think lavender or blue flowers would be really nice.

Hydrangeas would be really pretty and summery . Try tone on tone - use different shades from the same colour range to add extra depth and interest to your arrangements try Hydrangeas, Delphinium and Lavender together -and you can get these as pot plants or as cut flowers; they come in blues, whites, pinks and pale green and their huge flower heads have real impact.
Reply:pink

peach

lilac

white

lt blue
Reply:I think your flower choices were beautiful. You can also go with another shade of blue with white. Yellow is the most complementary color however.
Reply:red and white
Reply:You can get anything to go with Navy blue. Since you're doing a wedding in July, you can get a lot of beautiful colors of flowers. I think that yellow would work really well--it would really pop when contrasted with navy blue dresses. Also, you could go preppy with pink or green flowers.

I would suggest getting a color wheel where you can see complementary colors, etc.

Best wishes!!
Reply:white or pink But i think you should definitely go with white
Reply:I think yellow would look best... but remember if your looking at flowers now ... the color changes in the season so you want to ask about that!
Reply:I would probably not have yellow. I like white, corals, pinks.

Have you consulted a florist? They're a great resource, bring a swatch of the fabric %26amp; you'll get a better idea of what goes.
Reply:Here is a list of flowers readily available in July (in season flowers are least expensive). I would look through Google images to look at the variations you'd find in the flowers. Navy can go with anything bright (think bright pinks, yellows, reds), but also muted colors work well, too (lavenders, greens, muted oranges/pinks). Given that you're going with a dark color for the 'maids, I would make their floral arrangements stand out, because in the summery months, brighter colors will pop in your photos and decor, etc., and with the dark dresses, you don't want too many muted/dark colors.

Congrats.

Make sure you have a brightly-lit setting to offset the darkness of those navy dresses, otherwise your photos will have quite a dark effect. Bright flowers will also help.
Reply:I actually had navy dresses in my wedding as well and used pink, white with a few blue flowers in the bouquets and they turned out really nice. Yellow would also look very cute too maybe mixed with some white and pinks or reds.

Navy is a lovely choice btw! Very chic. And gray or metallic tones are very hot next season.

Hope this helps!
Reply:First of all, what color hair do your attendants have????

That needs to be considered.

I would not go with yellow or red at all.

My first choice with navy would be carnations tipped in light blue....like an aqua/baby blue. That was a very popular combination of colors for Easter corsages in the 1960s and 1970s.

My second choice, would be magenta with the navy which would give you a larger variety of flowers. Magenta Star Gazer lillies would really brighten up that Navy! You could also accesorize with other magenta items at the altar and at the reception.

Navy can be very stunning IF you select the correct accent colors. You may also want to decorate with silver, too. Silver necklaces for your attendants...silver decorations as well.

It will be a lovely wedding....navy is a classic color just accesorize very carefully. Enjoy your wedding!!!

Has anyone ever seen a rose bush with multi colored flowers on it?

I have a rose bush that has one red rose with very little orange in the center, several that are yellow with orange tips and one that is pink with a very light pink center. This is all one on bush!! I've never seen anything like it and was wondering if this is normal. I'm not a flower person and don't know jack about them. I took pictures because I thought "If this isn't normal, no one will ever believe me." And to think I thought about taking it out because I'm allergic to the bees it attracts.

Has anyone ever seen a rose bush with multi colored flowers on it?
This is a grafted rose of many colors. When prunning, do not cut too close to the roots, as you will cut off the stems that the roses of different colors come from. Never prune closer than about 8" from the root stock.
Reply:No i havent.
Reply:I have seen something like this in Stark Brothers. They do mail order plants. I think you have to graft the plant to do this. I know they sell an apple tree that has several types of apples on it.

Ok theres this plant out back that looks identicle to marijuana and it sprouts a yellow flower...wtf is it?

The chinese Maple looks just like weed....I don't know if it blooms though....weed does...but then it is hella weakened by then and would be bogus....but anyway...DON'T SMOKE IT!!!....god that guy above me is trying to mess up you!!!...what if it ISN'T weed??......BADHEADACHE!! ....OW!.....

also... there is a weed that grows by my house that really looks like a budded out plant at maturity and it's not the real deal either......

Ok theres this plant out back that looks identicle to marijuana and it sprouts a yellow flower...wtf is it?
I wouldn't smoke it unless I was sure. Weed usually smells like weed even when it's really small. Many plants have secondary metabolites and can be very harmful if smoked. In fact, so is marijuana. Also if it has flowered then it should be dead already or dying soon since marijuana is an herb.
Reply:it could be marijuana...the male plants produce yellow flowers...they don't produce buds, the females do...but they do produce yellow flowers...so you might have a male marijuana plant....oh and the chinese maple DOES NOT look like a marijuana plant...its a tree whose leaves resemble the indica leaves...except they are red pfff
Reply:Marijuana has yellow flowers and dried leaves used for smoking. But the yellow pollens collected from flowers are more potent than its leaf couterpart.
Reply:smoke it and find out. its like opening a present.

What type/color shoes should I wear with a yellow skirt?

I have a yellow skirt (that fits a little above the knee) with a brown flower design at the bottom. I was thinking of wearing it with a brown top, what shoes would I wear? I will be doing a little bit of walking so I want something cute and comfortable.

What type/color shoes should I wear with a yellow skirt?
If you're going with a brown top and yellow skirt, I would suggest some white shoes. It stays in a similar color pattern, but gives it a little variance by not matching exactly. I myself prefer heels, just because I love the defined look that it gives my legs. However, flat sandals are really in, can look super cute, and be comfortable. Old Navy has a really cute selection of flats and wedges, it's my favorite site!
Reply:I think that brown shoes would look great. I just bought myself a pair of brown Skechers and they are soooo comfortable. Also, another thought is Aerosole shoes. They come in dark bronze and copper colors. A tan khaki would also go well. Or even a pretty pair of yellow ones, like low espadrills.(sp?).Sandles are the rage now, but make sure they have some built in support. Regardless, be sure to break them in first before your walking tours.

Good Luck.
Reply:Maybe Ugg boots? or brown sandels, or white pumps.

As long as its a plain colour like brown or white it would probably be fine.
Reply:Gold or cream flats
Reply:it depends on what type of top you are wearing like lets say you are wearing a red hollister top then you would wear some red and yellow or seperate red and yellow slip ons
Reply:i would wear a nice brown hedge heel
Reply:Flats!

Cute √

Comfortable√

and they look great with skirts.

I think that you should wear gold flats though.

Or you could wear some Egyptian style shoes.

Hope this helps you!!!!!
Reply:I would go for a comfortable gold/beige colored flip-flop. I can walk all over downtown in flip flops (I grew up at the beach.) So if you're not a flip-flop person go for a cute flat. Since your skirt has a pattern on it try a solid color (perhaps green). Remember it's not the 80's so it doesn't have to match perfectly.

Good luck!
Reply:Black trainers. Black goes with everything!!! :)
Reply:I definitely think a brown shoe. Yellow would be "too cute," if you know what I mean. Always try shoes on for comfort. I have some adorable (to me) brown sandals that are so comfortable. I think they are by Naturalizer or Aerosole. Both brands are inexpensive, but well-made of nice quality leather and emphasis on comfort. I think brown sandals for summer with that outfit would be the best. A brown flat would be ok too, provided it doesn't rub up and down on your heel. Make sure the fit is perfect if you buy a flat and plan to wear it without stockings, which, of course, you do.
Reply:some brown, yellow or black litlle pump shoes they will look sooo cute

xxxx
Reply:wear a flat thier pretty comfterble and cute and come in alot of different colours and patterns.
Reply:white flats

Does anyone know anything about yellow spiders ?

It hasnt fallen into my custard.it is living in a yellow rose in my garden.Has it changed colour to adapt to the flower colour. It is very successful in tricking flies as its camouflage is superb.

Does anyone know anything about yellow spiders ?
This is what i serached for you hope you are happy.

The yellow (golden) sac spiders, genus Cheiracanthium are members of the spider family Clubionidae (sac spiders): Members of this family build a sack-like, silken tube in foliage or under bark or stones as their lair. In nature Cheiracanthium species are usually found in foliage, but some species are found inside houses and around other human developments. These spiders are relatively small (10 mm body length), and are yellowish in color; they are difficult to distinguish from one another, and species identification requires examination by an arachnologist.

Yellow sac spiders are among the least known clinically significant spiders, but they are indeed capable of causing a painful bite with development of a necrotic lesion (not as severe as the brown recluse or hobo), and can sometimes produce systemic effects as well. They are very prone to bite defensively (more so than any other significantly venomous U.S. spider), and some bites in humans have occurred in unusual places, such as in automobiles and swimming pools. It is likely that many U.S. cases of necrotic arachnidism ascribed to the brown recluse spider outside of its natural range, are actually yellow sac spider bites.

Yellow sac spiders which have been implicted in human poisonings include C. brevicalcaratum in Australia, C. inclusum in the United States and southwestern Canada, C. japonicum in Japan, C. mildei in the Mediterranean and the United States, C. mordax in Australia, the Central and Southwestern Pacific, and some parts of the United States (including Hawaii), and C. punctorium in Europe. In the United States inclusum (indigenous) and mildei (introduced) are the species most likely to be found, and the most likely to produce bites: These two spiders have a wide distribution in the United States, and precise ranges for them have not been defined. They tend to be transported easily, particularly in agricultural products such as grapes; in some areas (such as southeastern Idaho), it appears that grocery store grapes shipped from vineyards in central California are a principal means of introduction.

Cheiracanthium mildei was first identified as a cause of necrotic arachnidism in 1970, when it was linked with skin lesions in the Boston, Massachusetts area (where it is the most common spider found in houses); it is also common in houses in New York City, and may well be the cause of recent "brown recluse bite" rumors circulating there. In the late 1970's and early 1980's mildei produced a significant number of bites in the Provo, Utah area. C. inclusum has been reported responsible for bites in Georgia and southwestern Canada; bites by this species are probably far more common and widespread than this however, and it is likely that more reports will surface as Cheiracanthium species become better known as clinically significant spiders.

Bites by yellow sac spiders generally produce instant, intense stinging pain, not unlike that of the sting of a wasp or hornet. This may be followed by localized redness, swelling and itching; these manifestations may or may not evolve into a necrotic lesion, but when that occurs healing is usually complete within eight weeks. Systemic effects are usually not severe, but when they occur may include chills, fever, headache, dizziness, nausea, anorexia, and sometimes shock. Treament for the local lesion should follow the same protocols as outlined for the hobo and brown recluse spiders: Likewise, corticosteroid therapy may be beneficial when systemic effects are present.

Spring flowers?

Ok we planted alow of flowers about 2 years ago and most of them are daffodils the yellow flower look it up on google i see other neigbors with daffodils accually fully blooming

mine are growing but dont bloom as well when the flower blooms its already half dead if its not dead but it blooming its all scrunched up

how can i make my daffodils look my neighbors?

Spring flowers?
Where are they planted? Daffodils generally need full sun and a nice well aerated soil to thrive.
Reply:I'd have to see pictures of your scrunched up flowers to be sure what's happening.

First, if you bought cheap bulbs, they were not mature enough to have a flower. What did they do last year? Anything? Did you remove the foliage too soon. The foliage is a giant solar collector gathering sunlight to capture the energy inside the plant. If you remove the foliage, the plant can't gather energy.

Second, if your winter is dry, the bulbs can dry out. The soil needs to be moist but not wet. If your summers are wet, the bulbs may be rotting underground. Daffodils need a somewhat dry soil in summer.....they should be sitting in puddles.

Have you fertilized the bulbs? Any flower fertilizer will work. Apply in early spring, even before the flowers appear...or should appear.

Finally, the bulbs could be diseased. Did one up now and look at it. Is it mushy? Does it look eaten by an underground bug or mammal (vole)? If you suspect disease, do not put new bulbs into the same soil, plant elsewhere. There could be an insect sucking the life from your flowers before they open. Thrips is one that comes to mind.

I'm sorry you hare having this trouble, daffodils are usually easy to grow.
Reply:there is nothin' you can do...sorry..............
Reply:Get a soil test kit at Home Depot. You might have too much of a certain mineral in your soil.
Reply:Good question Zachary, I wuld suggest severl things, number one, be sure it is in full sun. Number two, supplement a fertilizer with High Phosphorus in spring and in fal when you plant the Bulbs. the Phosphorus increses blooming and color. if your looking at a fertilizer Bag, you will see three letters NPK (Nitrogen, Phosphorus and potassium). you want a fertilizer called blom statrt or Bone meal. the Number in the center will be High. for example ( 4-12-4). 4% nitrogen 12% phosphorus and 4% potash.

lastly, some bulbs, such as daffodils can be forced. if you do tis, it will simulate a cooling and warming of climate which will prompt the Bulb to sprout, thinking that it is spring. daffodils, in my opinion work best if you just supplement fertilizer.

What do some of the flower colors mean in russia?

I learned about yellow.. the very hard way. In russia yellow flowers mean I cheated or am breaking up..

What do some of the other colors mean?

What do some of the flower colors mean in russia?
You already know about the yellow and it's probably the most important, although I agree that red can mean passion and white can mean sympathy, it's not as important as yellow.

BTW, do you know that the NUMBER of flowers you give is also important (even more important than the color!). NEVER give 2 or 4, because this is considered for dead people (generally, even number is considered bad. On the West I found a way around it by buying a dozen of flowers and making two bouquets out of it - 5 and 7). The best numbers are 7 and 9. For roses even single rose is good.
Reply:white can also symbolise your compassion for someones death, dark red roses are usually given to older women, pink roses to younger ones
Reply:white roses could be given to someone on their wedding date. White lilies can be given to funerals.

It's kind of confusing so not many people pay that much attention anyway.
Reply:White or light pink means friendship.
Reply:white can symbolize innocence, red - passion etc

Does a red flower petal has the same shape than a yellow flower petal cell?

I dont know but they probably do...color shouldnt matter

Can you help me find the names of a couple of flowers?

Hi i've seen these little flowers that have been blooming around my neighbourhood and im dying to get some but i don't know what they are called. They kinda look like miniture tulips...they are so cute! I've seen them in white and yellow, im not sure if they come in any other colours. Are they a seed or a bulb? and do they come back every year?

There are also some other flowers that are in bloom right now and there tiny too. They kinda grow ontop of grass, i've seen them in a deep blue colour. Any ideas what that flower is called? Any where i can get them?

Thank you!:)

Can you help me find the names of a couple of flowers?
There are botanical tulips that bloom very early in the spring. They are very small. The lovely little blue ones in the grass are called "Scilla". They are invasive and spread very easily from the garden beds into the lawn.
Reply:Most spring flowers are bulbs. I am guessing the blue flower is a grape hyacinth.
Reply:What you call "little tulips" could be crocuses. Are you in the north? Are they pushing throw the snow? Maybe they are just that - miniature tulips.

The deep blue could be grape hyacinths. You need to describe them more.
Reply:You need to post a photo of these plants to get a positive ID- you can get minature tulips, so that could be what the first flower is....the blue ones could be violets (species Viola odorata) but again they could also be a lot of other things, maybe grape hyacinths? do a google image search for the plants i have listed and see if they match what you have seen, or better still photograph them and post the photo here.

I'm looking fro suggestions for some sweet swelling flowers, besides lilacs?

I'm also looking for the name of a flower that smells sweet. It is a smal flower, it is either white or yellow, but it smells beautiful. any ideas?

Thanks

I'm looking fro suggestions for some sweet swelling flowers, besides lilacs?
I believe the yellow flower you are describing is jasmine - carolina jasmine. There is a white variety called star jasmine or confederate jasmine. Gardenias and magnolias also smell nice and of course there are several wonderful smelling roses. Good Luck!
Reply:Roses

Peonys (but with them plant them far from the house because ants that open them can come into the house,)

Forsythia

Jasmine

Or go wild at your local Nursery (Not home depot or Lowes) A real Nursery where all they do is plants.
Reply:Jasmine comes in white or yellow. Freesias come in white or yellow, and other colors. Both of these smell wonderful. Also hyacinths have a very sweet aroma.
Reply:lily of the valley

orange blossom bush

English roses

most peony's

honeysuckle
Reply:I second peonys and honeysuckle. Both fine fresh clean smells.

What makes my zucchini yellow and brown on the young ends?

Some were fine and some grow with yellow ends.

Then they are rotten and there are ants harvesting pollin from the flower, would that have anything to do with it ?

Sacramento

What makes my zucchini yellow and brown on the young ends?
The symptom you're seeing is called "Blossom-end Rot". There are two reasons why you're seeing your young zucchinis turning brown with yellow ends;

1) Calcium defficiency; Your zucchinis don't have enough calcium to develop properly. To correct this, make an application of dolomitic lime around the base of your plant and water-in. The lime supplies the necessary calcium and magnesium needed.

IF you don't want to apply dolomitic lime.....you can spray calcium onto your plant. This results in a more immediate response to the blooms and fruit. Some organic gardeners even spray milk as a source of calcium.

Both the dolomitic lime and calcium sprays can be found at most of your hardware/garden shops.

2) Lack of Pollination: A common reason for rotting and shriveling zucchini is lack of pollination by bees. Pollination is absolutely required for fruit set. Without pollination, the fruit that grows will yellow, shrivel, rot and die.

The zucchini has a male flower and a female flower, which must be pollinated in order for you to get proper fruit. To hand pollinate, break off a male flower, remove its petals to reveal the yellow pollen on its pistol, then roll the pollen onto the center stigma of the female flower.

You tell flowers apart because female flowers are larger and have a baby fruit behind their petals. The male flowers grow on a long stem and are smaller.

Some people use a cotton swab or artist's brushes to hand pollinate.

Hope either or both of these will help solve your problem. IF you have any further questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me directly. GOOD LUCK!

I'm wearing a yellow flowered top need eye shadow tips, want some on the outside of my eye as-well help?

I suggest using a dark brown eyeliner, black or brown-black mascara and a darker brown eyeshadow on the outter side of your eyelid (farthest from your nose) and a light beigy colour on the inner eyelid (part closest to your nose). Make sure you blend your shadow colours. Hope this helps.

I'm wearing a yellow flowered top need eye shadow tips, want some on the outside of my eye as-well help?
i love yellow colour so my make up tips wud be....try white eyeshadow or pencil even better, use mascara it will make ur eyes luk bigger so as white eyeshadow with glitter
Reply:Instead of eyeshadow, how bout black liquid eyeliner..???
Reply:Use brown eye shadow with ivory right at the brow also use brown or black eye liner.
Reply:Well, not knowing what you look like makes this a bit hard. Is the shirt all yellow? I would pick a color (other than yellow) that is on the shirt. If none of them are flattering to your eye shape and color, I would go with a more natural look.
Reply:put the eyeshadow really high, like into your eyebrows, as long as its a subtle colour. if its bright, ignore what i just said!
Reply:On the outside as well ??

was you going to put eye shadow in your eye then ?

Is there any symbolism about flowers in Thailand?

I'm English and in England different flowers mean different things. For example, red roses symbolise love, yellow roses symbolise friendship and white lilies symbolise death.

What flower,(or plant) besides Marigolds, repels bees & yellow jackets?

I use a library computer so I'm not on the internet all the time. I missed the answer(s) to this question

What flower,(or plant) besides Marigolds, repels bees %26amp; yellow jackets?
Marigolds do not repel bees. Bees are attracted to all flowering plants! It is what they do!! We would not have any fruits or vegetables if bees did not like flowers!!

Good Luck!

Can the Anacyclus perennial come in yellow? If not what do you think I have?

The description in The Sunset Western Garden book sounds like this flower but it says it is white. This is bright yellow with yellow middle and yellow on the reverse. The leaves are grey green wispy and finely divided. It is growing in my border garden at 9,000 feet in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. I bought these plants at a nursery and cannot find them again.

Can the Anacyclus perennial come in yellow? If not what do you think I have?
Definitely. The Anacyclus can be white, yellow or even occasionally light blue. I've found the Sunset Western to be a bit confusing myself. Enjoy your flower!

What is the meaning of a yellow rose with red tips?

I have been dating the same guy (27 yo) for 2 and a half months and he hasn't dropped the "L" word. We spend a lot of our time together and I stay at his house often. I was hoping on valentines I would receive red roses but instead received a dozen yellow roses with red tips. Can someone help me out? Do you think that he asked the lady at the flower shop what to get or just picked randomly? Also, what do yellow roses with red tips symbolize?

What is the meaning of a yellow rose with red tips?
Yellow with red tips: Friendship, falling in love

And if you want to know Red:

Red: love, used to say "I love you," but also stands for courage and respect, Deepest love.

Also a few things:

A Dozen Roses: stand for "there are dozens of ways I care about you."

I will give you everything:

Red: love, used to say "I love you," but also stands for courage, also Deepest love and respect.

Pink: symbolizes grace, sophistication and elegance. Also symbolizes gentle feelings of love and friendship.

Dark Pink: Gratefulness and appreciation.

Light Pink: Admiration, sympathy

White: Innocence, purity, secrecy, friendship, reverence and humility.

Black: used to signify death (black being the color of death) often of old habits. In a positive light it signifies rebirth after death. Also, slavish devotion (as a true black rose is impossible to produce).

Purple: protection (paternal/maternal love)

The rose also has various supernatural and literary attributes.

Pale Colors:convey warmth and friendship.

A Dozen Roses: stand for "there are dozens of ways I care about you."

Two Dozen Roses: stands for the 24 hours in a day and tells that "you think about them every hour".

Three Dozen Roses: signify a romantic attachment unlike any other.

Four Dozen Roses: mean unchanging and unconditional love.

I'm sure he likes you but just dosn't want to scare you with a BLAST of LOVE with out knowing you feel the same way! Don't be worried, and anyways Yellow with Red tips are unique!
Reply:Okay, I am NOT into the "color" meaning behind roses.

I really think you are reading too much into this, he probably just wanted to get you some beautiful roses because he thinks you're beautiful...give him some time to reveal his feelings, it takes some people longer than others.

If he hasn't broke off the relationship and he has you around often, he likes you and wants to be with you.

Be thankful for your beautiful flowers and just love him.
Reply:I'd prefer yellow over red... it's more unique and interesting than just getting the same old typical red roses. Maybe he doesn't consider you as the same old typical chick!

Tomato Plant Flowers??

I've reached that point where I have little yellow flowers on my tomato plant, and a couple of new tomatoes growing at the top with these flowers.

What I'd like to know is should I get rid of the flowers? Or do they not affect the growth of the fruit?

I was given a load of plants with not much knowledge on how to care for them!!

Thanks

Tomato Plant Flowers??
As several have informed you the flowers are the fruit so if you leave them you get more tomatoes. Since you sort of asked for pointers being a new grower here are a couple of tips.

If you want larger tomatoes on some plants, pick some of the flowers. The plant will give you larger fruit, but less of it.

Turn in steer maneur into the soil next to the plants. Tomatoes do great with natural fertalizer.

Water regularly. (every couple of days)

You also will want to pinch suckers to maximize your fruit. Suckers are shoots from between the main stem and regular branches. The will get large and don't flowe or fruit so watch for them and remove them.

Sounds like you will be up to your ears in tomatoes in no time.
Reply:DONT get rid of the flowers. That is where the fruit comes from. If you have a lot of leaves on lower branches closer to the ground you can prune some of them so the fruit gets more light. This will help with the sweetness too.
Reply:The flowers won't harm the other tomatoes, so just let things be and leave the plant. You will need to stake it as it grows taller, for support. Tomatoe plants thrive in a very rich composting soil. Cheers
Reply:when a tomatoe plant starts blooming it means the tomatoe is not far behind the coolest thing I have found is everytime you walk by the tomatoe plant shake it a little the shaking causes the flower to set fruit faster alot of people by bloom builder but you dont need it just shake the plant a little and watch those tomatoes come-good luck!
Reply:The flowers turn into the fruit, so leave them. If you have lots of flower clusters on your plant, clipping some of them will allow the plant to devote more energy to producing bigger tomatoes on the remaining blooms. Trim unproductive limbs as well, as they merely suck resources from the productive vines. Fertilize the plant, buy a tomato cage for support instead of just staking them, and water sufficiently. Tomato plants don't like to be waterlogged, so watch the amount of water. If they wilt a bit in hot weather, don't panic. This is normal. Add some water and you will literally be able to see them perk up again. Follow these rules and you'll be harvesting lots and lots of tomatoes!
Reply:The flowers form the fruit, by no means should you get rid of the flowers.

What flower,(or plant) besides Marigolds, repels bees %26amp; yellow jackets?
Citronella plant! inexpensive and sold at Lowe's/home depot/hardware stores
Reply:marigolds don't repel bees.. sorry.

Bees like flowers.. if it is a flowering plant, chances are a bee will be attracted.
Reply:marigolds do not repel bees! In fact, they attract them (anything with nectar attracts bees...)..........
Reply:I don't know about plants, but Rescue Yellowjacket Traps are great for Yellowjackets. They will not, however, catch bees, paper wasps, or other types of wasps.

The product does not contain pesticides if you are concerned about keeping your garden 'natural'. It contains an attractant that lures yjs to the trap, and they die because they cannot escape.

You can find them in larger stores such as Home Depot, Lowes, Ace Hardware, and smaller garden supply stores as well.

Unknown Plant With Fruit and Flowers Growing in Shade - Please Help Identify?

This plant/tree has been growing under my trampoline for a few months. At first all the fruit was green and there were no flowers. Now the fruit is turning yellow and there are tiny white flowers with yellow centers.

Some people have already suggested guava, kiwi, and coffee. I don't think it's any of those, though. Another person thought it may be in the moraceae family, but I don't think that's the case either. It seems too peppery and tropical.

It's most definitely not a Brazilian pepper tree. I've had many of those, and this is extremely different.

Looking for asian food... yellow dried flower (?) chips?

I don't even know how to ask this.

While living in California, this co-worker brought in a bag of asian chips. They were yellow and sweet and made out of some sort of plant or flower. I could be wrong on the flower part.

They were absolutely heavenly.

Anyone know what the heck I'm talking about? If you can tell me what they're called... you can only find them in Asian stores.

Thanks.

What do people think about these flowers?

Alright, I know this decision is up to me, and me alone, but I have a bad eye for color and picturing things. lol

I was thinking about asking my florist to make this bouquet, http://florists.ftd.com/pricechopper/pro... but with yellow flowers instead of peach. It is a summer wedding and the bridesmaid dresses are dark blue. I think the peach also looks good, but I wanted something bright to lighten up the dresses.

Would the colors look good, or any other ideas/suggestions?

Thanks!

What do people think about these flowers?
I think the yellow and white together will be quite pretty. The peach are pretty, too, but I agree with going yellow. Make it yellow roses, like this is peach roses, not something like gerbera daisies, that would just be too much bright yellow.

Don't go with red and white, because with the dark blue dresses you would look too patriotic, not that there is anything wrong with being patriotic, just not was wedding colors, in my opinion.

Light orange, lavender, pink all would look nice. I know this is going to sound bizarre, but go down to the hardware store and pick out a paint chip that matches the bridesmaids dress color, and pick up other chips and see how they look together.

Best wishes on your upcoming nuptials.
Reply:Yellow would be washed out with the cream. I think the peach would look fine with the blue. You could have blue touches within the bouquet, something little, and maybe blue ribbon.
Reply:Consider yellow and peach with a touch of white.
Reply:I think it would be beautiful either way.

Peach would be nice for a more soft romantic look. Yellow would be a little more in- your-face.. youd have to watch out for it looking like a crayola-fest haha.. but you could pull it off.

Very pretty! good luck
Reply:Hey i have a better idea and go to FTD.com and click on Vera

Reply:I LOVE the yellow with the dark blue! It will really pop! I think you should ditch some of the greenery, I feel that bridal parties don't have the greens in them as often anymore.

Reply:I like the idea. Good choice.
Reply:OH! Those are beautiful! :-)
Reply:I like it and think a mix of yellow, peach and the white would be gorgeous. Or you can just switch out like you are thinking now.
Reply:remove the daylillies, replace with yellow and use a blue flower and keep the white stephonitis. (talk with florist) to reflect dresses. I love peach and it goes beautiful with blue.
Reply:As long as you used a soft yellow I think the yellow and white would look good together
Reply:I think they would be lovely!

What is a good household remedy to remove yellow from aging clothes?

I have an approx. 30 year old flower girl dress that is slightly yellowed. I'd like to restore it so that my daughter can wear it, but it appears dingy even after two home cleanings. It had a chocolate stain that came right out, so it's very easily washable. Any ideas?

What is a good household remedy to remove yellow from aging clothes?
Try hydrogen peroxide. I use this for doilies that I crochet. It won't harm the dress even if it doesn't work. Fill the sink about 3/4's with water, then pour in about 14 to 16 fluid ounces of peroxide. Let the dress soak in solution for a couple of hours or less. Then wash dress as you normally do. You should be able to tell within 30 minutes if the solution is bring out any of the yellow. If this does not work, then try baking soda and water.
Reply:Did the peroxide bring out the yellow? Sure hope it worked. Thanks! Report It

Reply:I had a bad mildew problem, and tried alto of things, finally, I tried 100% Lye, used for cleaning drains (and making soap). You need to be very careful not to touch it. Report It

Reply:dry clean?

i don't know what is flower dress, but if it is white, we can always bleach it,

want to dye it again?
Reply:A cup of hydrogen peroxide in your wash should probably do it. I removed yellowing from my great grandmother's sheer curtains, and they were about forty years old and in very bad shape. They came out of the washer looking brand new!
Reply:I used woolite and oxyclean to get a christening gown white again (it was in a closet for 30 years)
Reply:Have you tried bluing yet? You can buy it at any department store. It works better than bleach but is safe for all colours. IMPORTANT fill your machine first, then put in bluing. Mix in water well, then put in dress. I find this works best. However, check the package. It may have some suggestions too! NO the bluing doesn't stay in the clothes! I don't know why they call it this, but it does work! GL
Reply:All fabric bleach or the use of speciality products available in grocery or drug stores, such as Rit's "Whitener and Brightener" may help. Carefully read and follow the instructions on the product label, and check for colorfastness first.
Reply:Soak it for at least 24 hours in a solution of cold water and salt (the water should taste like the ocean)....just stir it every few hours to ensure that all the fabric gets 'face time' in the liquid.

If you notice the solution is slightly discoloured or murky....(it means it's working)....so change it for a fresh batch.

This worked on an antique cross stitch piece which was stained and yellowed....it took a week but it got most of the yellow out AND a small red stain which we believe is run off from thread dye.

Good luck.
Reply:Try soaking in Borax. Follow directions. Hang outside in the sun. The sun is a natural bleaching agent. I successfully cleaned a 30 year old baptismal gown this way and it looked brand new.
Reply:After washing hang outdoors in the sun and maybe overnight. This has remove many a yellowing stain for me.
Reply:you can try soaking it in hot water with bleach inside the water and live it to wash out for the night then spread it out i have had that tide has some bleach in it so you can try restoring the flower girl dress with tide
Reply:Some baking soda in the washer when you wash it will safely whiten just about anything. Start with a teaspoon on the first wash, add more if it doesn't work. Just don't over do it since the baking soda can clog the washer if you use too much. There is also a product on the market called iron out, which is supposed to remove rust stains, but it also seems to work well with yellowing.
Reply:I had a blouse, about 5 years old surprisingly, that turned completely yellow. But it was white so I just washed it a few times with an extra helping of bleach in the washing machine. It worked.
Reply:Try soaking in a baking soda solution.

But you really should have brought it in to a professional before even touching it. You could have worsened the yellowing by washing it first.

Take it in to a few different cleaners and get their honest opinions, then decide if it's worth the risk. Cleaner's that specialize in wedding gown restoration would be the best.
Reply:Try the sun, but be careful don't leave it out too long because the sun can harm the fabric as well.
Reply:I've used Polident dissolved in a sink of water to whiten an old family baptismal gown (about 35 years old). It sounds crazy to put a white dress into a green liquid, but it really worked well and didn't damage the fabric at all.
Reply:Much depends on the fabric. Is it cotton, or a synthetic or ?.

For example washing the dress in very mild mix of water %26amp; chlorine bleach, rinse and hang out in the bright sun for a day should whiten the dress IF it is cotton.

The same treatment on polyester might make it more yellow!

So, if you think it is a synthetic fabric buy a package (or 2) of whitener/brighter from a same store that sells Fabric Dye.

Good luck..

Has anyone had a white bathing suit or a bathing suit that has white in it from Limited Too turn yellow?

(I had this happen but don't know why) I had two bathing suits ~ one was all white and one had flowers on it that were white and they both turned yellow! They also were both from Limited Too.

Has anyone had a white bathing suit or a bathing suit that has white in it from Limited Too turn yellow?
Because the water washes it out.

Example: Dirty beach water, chlorine, etc.

But this never happened to me since I don't get my swim suits there.

Why is my florist afraid to work with these flowers?

At the end of July, my wedding arrives. I'm not a 'Bridezilla" although I ve been through three planners, 2 photographers, and now possibly, at the last moment a new Floral decorator...Why?...Because, after quite a bit of research, I settled on a designer who i thought would easily meet my expectations...I decicided on varied height centerpieces, using a array of summer blooms such as dahlias, Cockscomb, Peonies, Hydrangea, viburnum, asiatic Lilies, Garden Roses, and anything else that may be available the week of my party. The colrs are a mix of all shades of pink, orange, peach, butter yellow and chartreuse...But now my 'Hero" informs me that due to poor crops around the world recently he will have a difficult time procurring these types of blooms, in these colors...(However, he CAN get the flowers I prefer in shades of Lavender, Cinammon, Chocolate,Celedon and Hot pink) Interesting, these are the exact colors (minus the pink) that both he and my Fiancee suggested. What to do?

Why is my florist afraid to work with these flowers?
Well umm you sound a little like a bridezilla it is your fiancee's wedding too he should get some say, besides it is just flowers trust me nobody is going to care what everything looks like i guarantee they will not even remember what color flowers you had, they are there simply to get fed their dollars worth of whatever gift they bought you and leave.
Reply:Perhaps you are asking the wrong question. From what you've said it seems there is a lack of the colors you want or is it the florist prefers the colors your future husband likes? For me, your question isn't clear. You imply that you are extremely particular, why would you "hero" lie to you? I suggest that you call the local floral warehouse and ask exactly what flowers might be available during your wedding week. If a warehouse is not available to you, call several local florists and ask the same question.
Reply:Call around and see if other florist tell you the same thing...if they do, then he is being truthful, if not...dump him and go with someone else....hopefully this is the only wedding you will have...it should be perfect.
Reply:As you guessed , he's probably lying . Why? - ???? The Viburnum %26amp; Peonies area stretch at the end of July , %26amp; they %26amp; Hydrangea don't hold up well in the usual July heat .Also become more expensive out of season .(What your fiancee is worried about?) Might be what he's worried about . If you are OK with that ( should hold up for the wedding itself - more than that - ???) let him know. Dahlias, lilies, %26amp; cockscomb , are most readily available in a mix , so the rest of it sounds like bs. Good Luck
Reply:How about Mums. They could fill in the colors the other plants would be missing? Also, consider flowers that could be 'dipped' in edged dye.

Why are my Pink Dahlias Yellow?

A few weeks ago I bought some Dahlias and one of them had this vibrant pink flower. I have a container garden so I potted it in regular potting soil. Watered as usual. It's doing fine except all of the new flowers that are coming up out of this same plant are a bright sunny yellow?! Is there some kind of additive or acidity need for dahlia I didn't know about? How can I get my pink flowers back?

Why are my Pink Dahlias Yellow?
It's a color mutation called "sporting". You are not alone in this. It seems that pink dahlias turning yellow is pretty common.

Here is site about the color mutations.

Reply:Are the flowers yellow or are the Buds yellow. Dahlias for some reason bud yellow and bloom true colors. Fun to watch a maroon blossom come from a yellow bud.

Can I bring a bouquet of flowers from Colombia to the US?

I was the maid of honor for my friend's wedding and I want to bring the bouquet I carried. It is a beautiful bouquet of yellow roses. I am concerned that they may not let me bring it to the US. I heard that only flowers that are marked "secured for US" are allowed. Please if anyone knows the answer let me know.

Can I bring a bouquet of flowers from Colombia to the US?
I think that you can. But DONT carry it in your hand or your carry on. I bring avocados back all the time.. And most roses that we see in the US are from Colombia anyway. I dont see why not. Or, why not get them dried in Colombia before you go.
Reply:i dont know, security in colombia is pretty tight. you should probally pack it in your luggage or something, they might take it away if you have it with you or something. or you should probally go to the airport and check with them, just in case.

---and remeber dont bring anything liquid with you or in your hand bag, just in your luggage
Reply:I don't know about the flowers, but I was wondering if you could bring a package back for me? It is fairly small, only about a kilo in weight. Well?

Why do some New York City Taxis now have flowers painted on their roofs?

I stayed at the Westin Times Square on the 33rd floor and while looking out the window down onto the street I noticed several yellow cabs had these 60's era flower designs painted on top of their roofs and some on the front bumper. What does this mean?

Why do some New York City Taxis now have flowers painted on their roofs?
It’s an idea that seems more like Woodstock, 1969, than New York City, 2007, but it has the Bloomberg administration’s blessing and the city is going ahead with it.

Starting today and extending through December, hand-painted, adhesive, weatherproof images of giant decorative flowers will be applied to the hoods, trunks or roofs of New York City’s yellow taxicabs. Ninety percent of the flowers were painted by children from the city’s public schools and hospitals; a fraction were painted by children in New Jersey, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Cleveland and Los Angeles.

The flowers “will soon transform the ubiquitous yellow icon into a mobile artistic canvas,” according to a news release from Portraits of Hope, the nonprofit program that is organizing the effort.

The vast public art project, known as “Garden in Transit,” originated with two brothers, Ed and Bernie Massey, who founded Portraits of Hope in 1995. The project was intended to provide creative therapy for seriously ill and disabled children, but has expanded to include children and adults participating through schools, after-school programs, hospitals and nonprofit groups. Portraits of Hope has decorated blimps, buildings, tugboats, airplanes and even Nascar racers; the taxicabs are the group’s latest effort.

Ed Massey conceived of the idea in spring 2000, and after preliminary meetings with the city’s Taxi and Limousine Commission, Bernie Massey, his older brother, led a team in developing educational and civic engagement elements for the project. The taxi commission unanimously agreed to support the project in July 2006, and Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg announced the event at a news conference.

“By unleashing the creative power and civic pride of New Yorkers, our city has come together for one of the biggest volunteer efforts we have ever seen,” the mayor said.

Bernie Massey, 46, said the flowers were chosen for the project because children everywhere — including the hospital wards the brothers visited — draw them. “It’s the one universal symbol of hope, beauty, life, joy, inspiration,” he said.

(The Massey brothers grew up in Los Angeles. When Bernie was asked whether he and Ed, 42, enjoyed flowers as children, he said, “We liked flowers, but they were no more special than anything else.”)

The cab owners and drivers do not have to pay for the flower patterns, and participation is voluntary. The vinyl flowers do not damage the cabs and are easily removed. The organizers hope to get a majority of the city’s 13,000 yellow cabs to participate. At a news conference today at Union Square, the organizers unveiled six cabs with the decals. Each cab can accommodate two or three panels; each panel has one to five flowers on it. About 27,600 panels have been painted, enough for each cab to have two.

“The kids have done their part,” Bernie Massey said. “Now it’s up to the taxicab industry. The mayor’s office and the T.L.C. are trying to rally the support of the industry.”

Garden in Transit is a privately financed effort that has included about $1.5 million in cash donations so far. Helen and Peter Bing, a California-based couple, and Empire Blue Cross Blue Shield have been among the donors to the project. Vornado Realty Trust provided about 20,000 square feet of studio space, while MACtac, a manufacturer of adhesive products, gave deep discounts on the flower decals.
Reply:Soot pollution kills 40,000e Americans each year so I wonder how long this flower power disguise will last for these cabs. Soon or later someone will complain and take notice and force the TLC to comply with human standards Report It

Small yellow animals on my table?

there are some small animals almost like ants, they are yellow, and i saw them on my glass table, i dont know what they are, oh and i have some flowers that are dying, i think the little bugs are from the dead flowers im not sure... are they?

Small yellow animals on my table?
They might be aphids, but they are greenish. Maybe they are covered in yellow pollen from the flowers, and they are ants. Without a picture I can't really help you, sorry.
Reply:dump the flowers as that's probably where they are coming from, either the flowers or the moldy water. See if that helps and if not, then get back to us.

My tomato plants were doing great...I have about 15 tomatoes on 2 plants, but now the flowers are falling off.

The flowers bloom and then shrink and then fall off, the entire last part of the stem turns yellow instead of green and falls off taking the dead flower with it. When I pull out the flower part, I can see the tiny tomato...but it never grows any bigger than the size of an earring stud. Also, it seems as though the tomatoes that I do have on the plant are taking forever to turn red and I am starting to wonder if they are ever going to ripen fully. I am dying to eat one, but they are just not turning red...I also wanted to wait to eat any fried green ones until I had a fresh red one. I am using a fish emulsion fertalizer and an aphid spray (prob with red and black aphids) and I think I have a minor fungus (leaves at the base turning yellow, but think it is due to the extra humid conditions we have had this month...should clear up when it stops raining.)

Sounds to me like you have blossom drop. It can be caused by too much fertilizer amongst other things. Stop fertilizing and killing the bugs on your plants and let nature take it's course.

As for riping tomatoes, depending on the variety, it could take a month and a half before your tomatoes are red and ripe.

Here is a little info about blossom drop:

Good Luck...
Reply:You might be over watering it; that could be the cause of the stems turning yellow. It takes time for the fruit to develop. And it depends on what kind of tomato plant you have. If it is a cherry tomato plant the fruit is not going to get very big. And for the fungus; try using a fungicide. And keep the weeds, grass, and bottom leaves clear off the plants. You need to let the plants have plenty of air circulation %26amp; sunlight to help clear up the fungus which trives on moister and darkness.
Reply:PLEASE do not eat anything from those plants..Very possible they are diseased.,.
Reply:Sadly it could be just too wet. Blight affects tomatoes as well as potatoes, and I lost an entire - and promising - crop of tomatoes to blight a couple of years ago. I hope for your sake it isn't that.

What colors would go with a golden yellow?

I'm redoing my bathroom and the tub and sinks are this golden yellow color. I plan on changing them to white but right now, I have to work with them. I have dark brown flooring in the bathroom which I am planing on changing too. My shower curtain is a beign color with tiny light and dark pink flowers.

If anyone has any thoughts or ideas about my project please let me know!. Thanks!! =)

What colors would go with a golden yellow?
You have the right idea in not trying to ignore the yellow fixtures. In doing so they will be more obvious. I personally would look for a shower curtain with gold and brown in it, to help tie in with the flooring and fixtures. Add luxurious towels in brown, beige and cream to create a soothing color palette.
Reply:purple is yellow's complimentary color. but i think a yellow room with deep brown and white accents would be pretty.
Reply:black...

gray...
Reply:a bright rusty red but you would have to change the shower curtain because the pink wouldn't go
Reply:Red
Reply:white will be simple and elegant with the yellow...then throughout the year you can change it up by adding different accessories...bringing in fresh tulips in the spring, and multi-coloured pastel handtowels, and then golden candles in the fall, and add some greenery and gold or silver at christmas.
Reply:blue, black, light or dark pink
Reply:loads of colors go with gold yellow like black or the color of money or me becuase i look fabulous with any color jk

When you take flowers to the cementary, do they remove them or should I go back and get them?

My parents head stone has a vase on each side, so I bought some pink roses and yellow roses to go in the vases. Of course they are fake. I just want to know if the caretakers throw the flowers away? Someone told me they did.

My mother loved big flowers.

When you take flowers to the cementary, do they remove them or should I go back and get them?
The cemetery will remove as part of its maintenance of the property.
Reply:Hi, I know here they are not too strict on flowers in urns. I usually take the old ones out when I go up to put new ones in. With the old ones, I put them in the ground on older graves that have no flowers because they are so old that noone goes to them. The whole backside of cemetery has flowers now and it looks nice, not just old stones that noone can read.

But alot of cemeterys have a sign with "rules" at the gates.

This year I plan on planting a lilac bush behind one of the graves.
Reply:You need to ask the management.

I am sure they have some set of standards.
Reply:When I go to the cemetery I usually purchase the flowers on the way. There should be a few florists right next to the cemetery and they usually give a list of the times the cemetery will be cleaning up in case you place anything on the grave that you want to get back. If the florist doesn't provide this you can go the office at the cemetery and request this form from them, they will definitely have a time schedule. Anything left on the graves during clean up will be thrown away.
Reply:Okay I had this problem too . I caught the caretaker removing them one day and I told him that he could keep taking them out if he wanted too but I was going to be back the next day and bring more . it was his choice . Well anyway he stood 6 ft tall and me I am 5'5 so he told me I was a wiry little thing . He now lets me put flowers there and he left strict instructions for no one to mess with the flowers i lay down there .

Im Planting yellow onions, do they flower when they grow?

Read the bottom paragraph of the link below...You do not pick onions untill they have flowered, then the top of them fall over and go brown or dried out on you..The green top starts dying off and when it falls over cuts the water off to the top so the onion below can cure and grow some more..once the onion top has completely dried they are ready to pick...they will not be inedible as suggested here,....
