I touched a yellow flower. Spines on stem touched finger. My finger hurts now. Is the flower poisonous?

I was in my yard picking flowers when I tried to pick a yellow one with soft spines on its stem. The spines kind of jumped to the two fingers I touched the flower with, and left yellow coloring/liquid behind (it was washed off easily). Now my finger is sore and a tiny bit puffy. Is the flower poisonous, and should I seek medical help?

yes i think it was an infection mostly.
Reply:I doubt it, anything with thorns is likely to cause a bit of a reaction. Basically, the spines have aggrevated your nerves and your bodies response is to surround the area with fluid, causing a swelling. Try putting some magnesium sulphate paste on a clean dressing if there are still spines in your finger. It will draw them out painlessly, as well as any juices that the plant may have put in. If it doesn't ease within a few days, see your GP.
Reply:It sounds like irritation cos some yellow plants have a milky sap which is poisenous. if the irritation moves beyond your first finger joint or becomes hot and swollen seek medical help, otherwise it is just an irritant reaction.
Reply:Yes, what you described is called the Yellow Poison Dagger Flower. It has been known to paralyze people. Your finger will start hurting, then your hand, then your whole arm. The poison in your body right now is working its way to your spinal cord. If you get to the hospital now you will be OK, if you go to sleep, whenever you wake up you may be paralyzed.
