What flowers grow well in north central florida?

usually the flowers i plant die because of so much sun and heat. and needs lots and lots of water.

preferably easy to grow (doesn't need constant care, extremely fertile soil, etc.) it's going to be in a about 2 ft by 5 ft space. and hopefully in red and yellow.

i'm not sure if there are many flowers that have all these characteristics (i'm a pretty pitiful gardner ^^')

but if you can help me, thanks so much! :D:D

What flowers grow well in north central florida?
my mom has tons of long stem roses in her yard.. theyre pretty hardy.
Reply:I would think that many flowers would grow well there, but not in full sun areas, probably should provide them a little bit of shade.

WAtch out for hurricanes
Reply:Hybiscus are tropical, very colorful and love the heat!

Make sure to buy plants for the "zone" you live in. Here's a link with that information, as well as plant groupings for different zones, sun, shade, etc. This company has already done the work for you so it's easy! There are taller plants for the back and heights of plants that tier lower toward the front of the flower bed. You'll also be able to see what plants flower and bloom and what plants are just great coloring foliage. Happy gardening!
Reply:Marigolds, Impatients, lilies, roses (minitures or full bloom). Go nearest Wal-Mart, Home Depot, Lowes or Target and they will suggest what to get.
Reply:We use to live in Florida and found that just about everything will grow there. Go to your local nursery and talk to the manager or a knowledgeable clerk about your problem. They are there to help. I feel sure it is something you are not doing, or maybe you are planting flowers that grow in the shade out in the sun areas. Here is a nice website to check out:

Go to a book store and buy a beginner gardener's book.
