Does anyone know the name of those bright yellow daisy flowers with the dark center?

Sounds like Black-Eyed Susan (aka Orange Coneflower). Some nurseries will use the botanical name, Rudbeckia.

Good luck, hope that's what you're looking for. Google it and you will find pictures. BTW- it's unbelievably easy to grow!

Are there any plants/flowers i can plant that will keep away yellow jacket wasps?

I'm severly allegic to them, just wondering if there is such a flower or plant that they don't like.

Are there any plants/flowers i can plant that will keep away yellow jacket wasps?
I heard they like dark colors: brown, black, maroon, burgundy, magenta. There are a lot of pretty ground cover where you get a nice variety of texture and green

(Wasps also love soda cans, and beer, snacks left laying, spilled on the ground....)

Assume that in sunflowers red flower color is dominant to yellow. A true-breeding group of red flowered-plants

are crossed with a group of true-breeding yellow plants. what proportion of the offspring would you expect to have yellow flowers? A. 0 B. 1/4 C. 3/4 D. 9/16 E. 1/2

Assume that in sunflowers red flower color is dominant to yellow. A true-breeding group of red flowered-plants
1) A == 0 Zero is the correct answer . All will be Red flowered In F1 generation !!!

From = Botanist
Reply:The answer is A. zero

The cross would actually look like this:

Let:

R=red

r=yellow

RR x rr=all Rr

In heterozygous condition the recessive allele is masked hence the dominant allele is the one manifested.

All offspring would be red-flowered hence there would be no yellow-flowered offspring.

We have a fenced in yard with a yellow lab andwe we want pretty flowers .. how can?

jake (our dog) likes to lay in the hosta and etc.

We have a fenced in yard with a yellow lab andwe we want pretty flowers .. how can?
Of course... if you pay attention to the hosta, and he sits in the hosta, you might pay attention to him, too! %26lt;g%26gt;

As the person belonging to a black lab, may I suggest the book by Smith, "Dog friendly gardens, garden friendly dogs", published about 2003. A combination of room to run, not putting the favorite plants in the favorite summer sleep spot, and training the dog that it was ok to to roll *here* but not *there* worked for us. (And if you haven't tried clicker training, this is an excellent chance -- see Karen Pryor's Don't Shoot The Dog -- clicker training rewards behavior you want.)

Oh, and big pots of something or other work well as dog traffic slowing devices. %26lt;vbg%26gt; *Really* big pots.
Reply:my sisters dog did that at my house and the plant was flat as a pancake afterwards.

Hopefully, you can spend some time out with him everyday for a week or two and when you see him heading toward the plants, discipline. Use your voice if he listens to you.

My new little dog of about 2 years is a stinker she walks through the landscape and mulch and sometimes poops in it. I yell at her and she just looks at me. I think I need to swat her behind to give her a hint. I am thinking maybe like a bundle of newspaper or a magazine. Someone told me to put screws in a coffee can once and shake that around when the dogs are doing something bad. It scares them.

Good Luck.
Reply:Well, you 've fenced in the yard, why not fence in the hostas and etc.? Something with pointed tops, to discourage him from jumping over it. Plus, some discipline while you introduce him to the new addition.

Otherwise, keep him on a chain that is just a bit shorter than the placement of your plants.
Reply:electrical fenses maybe?

perhaps that combined with dog training.

What's the name of a vine with beautiful flowers that look like little brown-and-yellow butterflies?

I saw the flowers hanging down from the ceiling of a patio and it reminded me of fairy tales. How do I grow them?

What's the name of a vine with beautiful flowers that look like little brown-and-yellow butterflies?
This could be a Black-eyed Susan vine (thunbergia alata). This is very easy to grow. You can get seeds and sow them 1/4 inch under ground after the ground heats to about 70 degrees, or you can buy a plant. They usually come about a foot high on a trellis, when you can find them. You can save seeds to replant every year if it is an annual in your area.

A bouqet of yellow flowers?

I just went out to the store and bought the girl I like a bouqet of yellow roses. I'm pretty sure she doesn't like me back, but I would like to be friends with her if nothing more. That's why they're yellow. Thing is, I'm pretty nervous about giving them to her. First of all it's going to be at a concert, and the music's gonna be pretty loud. Second, I've never done anything like this. Third, I don't know if her brother/parents are going to be mad. Would they have any reason to be? I also need to conceal them so I don't walk in with this bouqet of flowers noticeably. What can I use to hide them? Thanks all.

A bouqet of yellow flowers?
don't try and hide them... you will look insecure and nervous. since you bought them just show up and give them to her. don't act like you're second guessing yourself.
Reply:that sounds really sweet she's really lucky!
Reply:Just walk in with the roses (which are my fave..... much better than red or pink). Be confident!!!!

Whay are the names of wild yellow flowered plants growing in the fields and mountains of northern england ??

they are yellow in colour which you see at present time in lake district and cumbria growing on sides of hills and mountains.

also what is the name of pink flowered tree presently in bloom all over u.k. are they cherry blossoms ???

Whay are the names of wild yellow flowered plants growing in the fields and mountains of northern england ??
The yellow flowers could be eranthis hyemalis, dandelion or aconites. The trees are probably cherries, apples or plums. If the flower looks like it could be cultivated in the fields then it is probably Rape - from which rape seed oil is made :-)
Reply:not sure about the yellow flowers but the pink frothy blossom trees are flowering cherries(fruits not edible though), some of the darker ones are flowering plums, again grew for their ornamental use only
Reply:Yellow flowers are probably gorse.

The flowering cherry is sure to be Prunus Kanzan which was very fashionable 25 years ago asit was a strong grower.

Hope this helps
Reply:The flowers are dandelions and the blossom could be cherry or apple.

Help!! In this same cactus, purple flowers are dominant to yellow flowers. A cactus that has both...?

... two-pronged and one-pronged spines has yellow flowers. It is crossed with a two-pronged cactus with purple flowers (heterozygous). What are the phenotypes of the offspring and in what proportion?

Help!! In this same cactus, purple flowers are dominant to yellow flowers. A cactus that has both...?
Your question does not provide enough info to give a proper answer. We would also need to know:

(1) Is flower color controlled by a single gene (simple dominance) or multiple genes (complex dominance)?

(2) What is the dominant/recessive situation RE two-pronged vs. one-pronged spines? Is this a simple or complex gene dominance situation?

(3) Are the genes for flower color and spine prong number linked in some way, or completely unlinked.

Regardless of the answers to these questions, the mathematics involved could get pretty hairy. I would hazard a guess that you are enrolled in a class that is over your head or (more likely, based on my experience with biology professors in general) that your professor is a simpleton and has asked an unanswerable question.

If dandelions produce seeds asexually, then what is the point of the bright yellow flower?

I mean, a bright yellow flower is supposed to attract insects for pollination. However, dandelions don't need pollination to reproduce -- they produce seeds asexually, resulting in their progeny being clones of the mother. Could the flower be a remnant of their evolutionary past? or do some dandelions reproduce sexually?

If dandelions produce seeds asexually, then what is the point of the bright yellow flower?
Not all dandelions reproduce through apomixis; in fact, the incursion (relatively recently) of the European dandelion (Taraxacum officinale) into Japan has resulted in hybridization with Asian dandelions and, because of the shorter pollen tube produced by TAOF also means that it can "block" native pollen and prevent fertilization.

But I digress. Well, not really. So you can see from its congeners that some dandelion species reproduce sexually. So it's likely TAOF reproduced sexually in the past, but the ability of apomictic species to reproduce rapidly without any others of its species around would be such a great advantage in a tasty-flowered long-distance-seeding plant that the asexually repsoducing ones would survive.

And there's still some mutation and DNA transcription "errors" in meiosis that can result in differences between offspring and parents, even without sex.
Reply:Dandelions self-pollinate to reproduce their seeds, thus having their mother and father in the same plant. Scientists believe that the flower is indeed a remnant of its evolutionary past; they believe that dandelions began self-pollinating only in recent years. Report It

Reply:Perhaps the color yellow is a warning color to animals that would eat the blossom before it goes to seed? I mean, if yellow means poison, or bad taste to an animal...that could protect the blossom.
Reply:Dandelions do not asexually produce seeds. They are self-pollinators. You can't really see it w/o a dissecting microscope, but the carpel is surrounded by a tube of fused stamens. When the flower is ready for fertilization, the carpel grows out of the stamen tube and along the way picks up pollen.
Reply:Creatures eat it, and the seeds get passed on.
Reply:apparently, they need to expand their genetic code to continue to evolve... I would think this would be common knowledge
Reply:God made it that way and who really cares

But, I think its because dandelions are wind pollinated and they have to have a way to release their seeds.
Reply:Its the advantage and disadvatage of each method of reproduction.

Eg. assexual reproduction is much more rapid than sexual and only needs 1 parent...so they are clones of that parent (being geneticall identical to that parent).

disadvatage is that this genetic similarity means they have the same resistance to diseases, environmental conditions (eg drought, water logging) or to damage eg root damage, browsing.

Its in the best interest of the plant to also combine it genes with others to get more diverse offspring. THis means there is a greater chance that more will survive in extreme conditions or they will be genetically better and therefore produce more offspring and "populate the world".

Disdvantage is it requires energy to produce flowers, needs 2 parents and is slower than assexual.

Depending on the situation, the plants will do either and/or both.
Reply:I believe it has to do with adaptation for survival. There are several instances of weeds that have adapted by taking on the characteristics of plants around them so that they might thrive instead of being eradicated.

I have a rock garden with nice plants but I need a yellow flowered perrenial that will stay flowered all summer long.

What is a nice, yellow flowered perrenial that will stay in bloom from late spring until fall?
An excellent perennial, that blooms from spring to fall, is blanket flowers. I planted mine just this year (as I'm landscaping) in the early spring and they have not stopped blooming yet. At any given time they are covered with at least 2 dozen blooms. Simply deadhead the spent flowers and they will continue to flourish. They are also great because they don't require a whole lot of water.

Reply:Daylily,,,,Stella D'Oro.....Blooms from Spring thru Fall. Is about 12' tall. Likes shade as well as sun, but doesn't like to get to dry. Beautiful greenier too. Also can try Primrose, yellow. Used as Ground cover, but can be aggresive. 3 to 6" tall. Likes dry / drought conditions. Full sun. Plants from seed, is perrenial. Doesn't bloom the first year, but will bloom constant from spring to fall the next year.

Could try Rose Moss,,,Yellow. Grows 12' to 18' inches. Constant bloomer in mornings. Likes full sun to shade. Goes to seed in fall, comes back in spring. Easy to take care of, low maintenance.
Reply:there is a type of trailing lantana ground cover that is a beautiful shade of medium light yellow. I've seen it in rock gardens and it is good there with full sun. You know a bright deep blue like lobelia always makes the yellow pop , I've seen it combined with yellow marigolds which also have a long bloom. But you have to plant the lobelia before it gets hot, but not while it's freezing., so they can establish a good root system before the heat. I think trailing flowers look best in a rock garden.Anyway the marigolds and lobelia are annuals.

Do dandelions really change from the little yellow flower to the white globular flower?

If so, why and how do they change?

They are the same. The round white globe is actually seeds that are formed when the yellow flower leaves disappear. It is kind of an interesting weed because it creates it's seeds and then recreates itself.

What is a red and yellow flower that grows in Arizona?

I was in Phoenix a month or so ago and noticed these great bushes near my hotel and on the sides of the road. They had these crazy yellow and red blossoms. The yellow part was more flowery, and inside was a bunch of red...another set of petal-type leaves and some other stuff. They were medium sized bushes, and the green foliage on the bushes had little elongated teardrop-shaped leaves. There were also some little round balls on the end of some stems, but I don't know if those were the precursor to the flowers. I have pictures of them and would love to know what they are. and they flower when there are many insects around to pollinate them - usually in spring when its warm and sunny. they can detect how much sunlight they are exposed to and can tell when this is.

How do plants know when to flower? Have you noticed that many early flowers are yellow? Why is that so?
Do you instruct your hair to grow ? Or does it grow naturally.

Similarly plants also flower naturally.

I dont know the second answer
Reply:It is because of the biological clock. And no I never note that.
Reply:Plants know when to bloom by the amount of sunlight they recieve each day. Plants have a biological clock that is very accurate. In commercial flower production facilities, the number of hours of light a plant gets is regulated so as to force the plant to bloom at the right time. I have never noticed that plants that bloom early are more often yellow. But perhaps they are and I have just not paid attention to that.
Reply:The flowering plants don't command themselves to produce flower. However when there are the right conditions for an offspring to be produced, the plant automatically produces flowers to attract insects to help them with pollination. As a result the fruit will be produced.

That's why in spring we see a lot of flowers because the wheater and enviroment would be perfect for them to do so. If you notice, when flowers open up in spring and then rain falls the flowers wear off the tree because the temperature has gone down!

What kinds of yellow or white flowers are there that I could put in my hair for an updo?

I want a large(er) flower to put in my hair ....for a dressy event, with a raindforest theme...my dress is indigo, so I was thinking white or yellow would be lovely..just not sure WHAT TYPE of flower would work/would they have them at a floral shop??

What kinds of yellow or white flowers are there that I could put in my hair for an updo?
If you're planning on using a real flower, I'd suggest seeing an experienced florist in your area. S/he can tell you what is seasonal and affordable and/or what would look best for you. For some people, if they have a round face, a really big flower, like some lillies, can be perfect. For some people, if they have a tiny, elfin face, a really big flower, like some lillies, would simply overwhelm and look horrid. Take your dress with you!

If you're planning on wearing a silk flower, some florist will still handle these. If not, you can still get the florist's advice, and you can go and buy that silk flower elsewhere.

Best of luck!

Reply:Magnolia! They are big, white, hard wearing, a bit waxy so they won't wilt and leak goo in your hair, and they look tropical!

If you can't find a magnolia, try a peony. They are also big and hard wearing and they should be available almost anywhere this time of year.

I would avoid lillies because the pollen stains clothing and skin.
Reply:White tullips are pretty, lillies, white roses or carnations, baby's breath is nice as well (that would probably used as a filler if you want something larger) White hydrangea's also look very nice, those are pretty large though. If you want to put those in your hair, you'd have to find one the right size. Daisies and orchids also look very nice :)
Reply:u could consider using a yellow rose or yellow iris along with some babies breath. the iris is big and delicate and the rose depending on the type of rose it is determines the size. the rose would be more sturdy

Yellow flowers for my bride's bouquet?

I love yellow flowers esp yellow roses, I do not want a large one just as if im holding a small loose bunch maybe with a ribbon. However my bridemaid dresses are truffle tones, like dusky browns and golds

would it go?

Yellow flowers for my bride's bouquet?
It depends on if the "truffle" color you're speaking of is a cool brown with grey undertones or a warm brown with red undertones. If it's warm then yes I think the yellow will go nicely. If it's cool then I would go with very light yellow or champagne colored roses. Really it comes down to what you like and what you want for your wedding day.

What are they and how do I get rid of them. It seems they grow from the shore out into the water.

You have water primrose (Ludwigia hexapetala). Verify with these photos:

Then read about water primrose here:

Rodeo herbicide (glyphosate) is said to be effective against this plant. Interestingly, I am TRYING to get water primrose to grow around my pond. Most people (i.e., everyone else!) considers it a nuisance.

Good luck!

What are those flowers on the yellow cabs? (New Yorkers only)?

I've noticed that alot of the yellow cabs in NYC have had their hood adorned with flowers. I'm assuming that this is some sort of advertising, but what is it an advertisement of? I'm extremely curious to know, anyone with any information would be greatly appreaciated! Thanks in advance.

Orchid- soil isn't drying out, yellow leaves, flowers falling off?

I bought my orchid a month ago. It has moss as its soil. It was wet when I bought it, but its not drying out. I have another orchid which I have to water every week, however this one I've only watered it once, and even then it wasn't needing a watering. Now one of the leaves is yellow, and the spike is droping on the end, and the flowers are falling off. Whats wrong??

Orchid- soil isn't drying out, yellow leaves, flowers falling off?
My boss grew orchids and always put them in a gravel base instead of soil. He explained that they needed air. Here's a site of growing them.

Hope it helps!
Reply:Orchids are potted on moss at retail stores so that they don't have to be watered before they are sold. They are not ment to stay in the moss. Repot with Orchid bark immediately!

Yellow Oleander? Small to medium street tree, tropical looking with brilliant yellow flowers.?

Saw this beautiful tree at the County Fair. The sign near the trunk said it was a "Yellow Oleander". But when I asked at two different nurserys I was told I was nuts. They said oleander is not a tree %26amp; comes only in red, pink %26amp; white. Never in yellow. I know what the shrub oleander is. This was completely different. Beautiful. I know I read the sign correctly. Anyone want to help prove I am not nuts? Thanks.

Yellow Oleander? Small to medium street tree, tropical looking with brilliant yellow flowers.?
So they think you're crazy? Crazy like a fox! You got a real eye for beauty. THEVETIA peruviana is one niffty small scale lawn tree. Called the Yellow Oleander, or lucky nut (never could track down where that name came from) is a beautiful, airy tree that grows very slowly to about 20 ft. high and just about as wide. keepit out of the wind and make sure it has good drainage and it will take care of it's self. once established it needs very little water ti look it's best. I talked my county engeneer into including them when relandscaping some county librarys back in the early 1990's. they look as good today as when they went in. i can't say the same for the other choices they made? for some unknown reason most landscape desidners always have to put Agapanthus in ever thing they design. You get one month of cool blooms %26amp; the rest of the year they look like crap. They put some in as a border around the library Yellow Oleander trees. wow, talk about a clash of color! big blue blooms %26amp; bright yellow flowers. Sure did draw attention to the new county buildings. Well, the Agapanthus are long gone, but the trees still look great. If your nursery won't get you one, find a nursery that will. remember, you are the customer %26amp; the customer is always right. just do me a favor, don't plant Agapanthus and do yourself a favor and don't put in a Jacaranda, Re: MESS-o-randa.
Reply:Wow, it is sad that nursery employees couldn't think up the name to help you. I am familiar with this plant. Thevetia thevetiodes or Thevetia peruviana are the two I know. They are a considered a large shrub but can be treated as a small tree.

See the links below.
Reply:Yellow oleander (Thevetia peruviana a.k.a. Thevetia neriifolia) is fast growing medium-to-large shrub that can be trained as a small single or multi-trunked tree. The plant is native to tropical America and thrives in heat but is sensitive to frost (USDA Zones 9b-11). Thevetia is used as a street tree in some parts of southern California and Florida. As a shrub, it can reach 8-10' tall and wide. When trained as a tree, it may grow 20-30' tall with an equal spread. Staking is recommended when young since the trunks tend to be quite flexible. Flowers are 2-3 inches long and range from yellow to apricot. Provide well-drained soil. Site out of strong winds (they tend to contort the tree in unattractive ways). If it does get frozen, it will regenerate from the roots and bloom the same year.
Reply:I've never heard of yellow oleander but I have seen oleander trimmed so that it grows tall to about the size of a small tree 10 or 15 feet.

MeOw!
Reply:No you are not nuts .

Another name for this "tree" is a lucky nut tree.

I say "tree" because it really isnt one. You can train the bush to grow like a tree. And i dont know why they call it lucky either. Very poisonous to animals,it produces a poison called glycuside which causes cardiac arrest in animals not sure what it does to humans. Hope this helps.
Reply:Yellow oleander, also known as "lucky nut," also known as "false oleander."

Like true oleander, it's deadly poisonous, but, has very pretty flowers.

If you want to order one, I suggest ordering it through its species name, "Thevetia peruviana."

That way, the nursery has no excuse for screwing up with your order.

What is the plant that has yellow flowers and that pop open about 10 pm and die by 10 am?

Moonflowers are a type of flower that open at sunset or later and close with the sun. The flowers are large and white. I am not sure if this is what you wanted or not, but I have some links for you to look at if you are interested.

I have a plant question. I have morning glories that sit on my balcony in potters. Recently yellow flowers?

have started blooming. This is a totally different type of plant with different leafs. Is this a weed? The flower that has bloomed is not at all in resemblance to a morning glory so I don't know if it is a weed or just that a seed was carried into my plant and it blossomed ? What should I do about it? I don't know if this is bad for the health of my morning glories(which haven't bloomed yet?)

Is there a way to get rid of "goat heads"? (Weeds that have spikey burrs with yellow flowers in Eastern CO)

Nothing I have tried kills them, I pull them constantly but the house next door has a terrible weed problem. They are fast growing and viney and even the garden shops have different ideas. I wish I could find something environmentally safe and not have to torch my whole back yard!

Is there a way to get rid of "goat heads"? (Weeds that have spikey burrs with yellow flowers in Eastern CO)
A broad-leaf weed killer may kill them. Round-up will kill anything it touches, so be careful. Try using a pre-emergent next spring to kill the seed before it germinates.
Reply:Ever tried Roundup? Good stuff and you could even spray the neighbors too and get rid of them. If you don't want to kill any grass, that may be in with it, go with 2-4-D that you can get from a farm store or gardening supply place. Safe for grass but deadly for weeds that are broadleaf.

Yellow flowers on the lawn?

hi,

My front lawn and backyard is covered with those yellow flowers and it started looking bad now. Its 70% filled! What can i use to get rid of them? i don't know what you call them...

thanks

Yellow flowers on the lawn?
Go to your local store and buy WEED BE GONE concentrate. This is made to be put into a garden hose sprayer. Use a spray bottle from Windex or something and mix up a batch.

Follow the instructions on the container, except. If you are supposed to use one ounce per gallon, double it. Put this solution into your spray bottle and get to work. Spray each plant with two shots. This takes time and effort, but it works.
Reply:Aren't they beautiful! We have a bounty-crop this season! I just love them. Why people kill them is beyond me...but, if that's what you want to do--kill your dandelions, then you either call a local turf maintenance company to spray your lawn or do it yourself. The chemical you need is "Trimec." It is a restricted use herbicide, however. Read and follow all label instructions. And keep your pets and children off your lawn for 24 hours after applying.
Reply:it does sound like simple dandy lions.

the best organic way to rid yourself of this scourge is to pull off the yellow tops every day all summer long and once a week dig them out to the bottom of their nasty little roots. this will be ongoing for as long as it takes.

somethings to know about these plants.

1. ) pick the larger leaves wash them and serve them in salad, they are full of vitamins. the roots can be made into tea ( i think it aids in digestion ).

2. ) these plants are not native to north america.

.oh i almost forgot I'm Canadian eh.

Reply:they are dandelions---it means nail of the earth. when you pull them out--if you can, their roots look like a nail. there is lots of stuff on the market--you could try weed %26amp; feed--it works pretty good. there is a company in this town called eco-green--they come %26amp; spray your lawn for weeds %26amp; spray fertilizer--a little pricey but not too bad. their product is phosphate free. maybe you have similar weed control companies in your area
Reply:you have either buttercups or dandelions. butter cups should die off soon. dandelions keep coming back. (groundsel also looks just like dandelion, but grows close to the ground.) both can probably be treated with a weed killer like weed 'n feed.
Reply:Yellow flowers.. Dandelions? Buttercups?
Reply:DANDILIONS. Check with you local garden center. They will recommmend the proper weed killer
Reply:Dandelions. Rejoice! They are good eating, and make a mighty fine wine.Better than just plain old green . EH!

What is a plant that has small light orange and yellow flowers in clusters? The leaves are thick and waxy.?

The flowers seem to start out very light and get darker as they grow. There are many flowers in the clusters. It is about 1 ft tall now. I can't figure out what it is after looking online for 3 days now and want to know how to properly care for it.

With the description of the think waxy leaves it sounds very much like a Kalanchoe plant.

Reply:Maybe a clivia, an indoor houseplant?
Reply:It sounds like Lantana. You did not say it is has a smell. Some folks think that Lantana smells like a fruity chewing gum, and others think that stinks. If you are in the USA there are several books out there to identify flowers, I like Better Homes and Gardens Flower Book (I think that it the name). It is a thick book with pictures, scientific names, common names, proper growing conditions, etc etc.
Reply:I would guess Lantana.

Go to google images, and do a search for it. Hopefully that looks like what you're describing.

Usually real waxy leaves are adapted to relatively high light conditions. You are describing a sun loving plant.

Moss Rose

Portulaca

Begonia

Maybe it's one of those. I could help more if you described the leaves more. If it's moss rose though, they are very hardy plants and do excellent in almost all conditions!

My red cherry tomatoes have yellow flowers for now 3-4 weeks. When should I be expecting tomatoes?

I have been faithfully watering my tomato plants every other day. It is receiving a lot of sun and been growing nicely. Flowers have been bloomed now for several weeks and I am wondering when I should be expecting tomatoes. I was told that it should be a week after the flowers has bloomed, but it is now nearly 4 weeks. Please let me know what I should do to help develop the tomatoes. I purchased two tomato plants from a nursery and transferred them to a large pot and they are now about two feet tall erected with a tomato cage.

you seem to be doing the right thing, only water every day, and three times a week with tomatorite fertiliser, tiny toms will appear after the flowers fade, good luck
Reply:Tomhaslisa has it right!!

You got no pollinators...bees, butterflies, etcs..use a q-tip like his advises..I had to do thing very same thing with my cucumber plants last year.

We need to make very clear as growers that protection of our environment is very important to us as VOTERS.

Vote to have a safe eniviroment for your children and grands; Save the honey bees that pollinate our fruits.

..The plastic bag from super market is used for twenty minutes then discarded into landfill by thousands of Americans everyday; I bet an Iraqi would like to have any kind of bag to carry any belongings they might have for a day to the next refugee camp?
Reply:First, is it warm where you live? Tomatoes need night temperatures that are in the 50s to set fruit.

If the temps are OK, try this: in the morning, go out and SHAKE your plants gently. This sometimes helps tomato plants to self-pollinate. Do this for several days.

Good Luck!!
Reply:You need to feed the plants now that they are in bloom - liquid tomato feed diluted.
Reply:You probably have no bees in the area to pollinate the flowers. Take a q-tip (cotton swab) and rub the flowers, moving from flower to flower with the same tip. This simulates what a bee does to pollinate the flowers, which is needed to develop the fruit.
Reply:Are your tomatoes in a greenhouse where no insects can come and pollinate the tomato flowers? If so, then you have to tap the plants, midday is best when the "pollen of the day" is loose and ready to fall. If outside, then the plants should at least have a breeze to shake them to set the pollen free. Are the flowers still on the plants? Maybe you are just impatient. Flowers that have been pollinated will remain on the plant, and those that are not, will fall off. Give the flowers a chance to open properly, and good luck. In the winter, we had to whack the wires daily at midday to "shake" the plants to promote pollination.
Reply:Its just waiting there is nothing more you can do. They may be taking longer because they aren't used to the different temperature.

Reply:I understand completely - sometimes I think I'm color blind!

Depending on the shades, it shouldn't be a problem. After all, blue and yellow make green. If you're concerned about what shades will go together, may I suggest going to a craft/scrapbook store and looking at a "color wheel" - you can probably find one on the web as well -. Then you can see what goes with what.

my thoughts are-one with flowers is under more stress-plants reproduce in order to survive the species-give the other one more time it will bloom and probably be more hardy

Any ideas for yellow flowers or a bush with flowers like Yarrow, Baby's Breath, Queen Anne's Lace, etc. that

grows in Northern Calif. (zone 9B) Everything so far is not a perrenial, is invasive, looks like a week when not blossoming, or something! I've looked through thousands of flowers! Don't you hate it when you have a certain picture in your mind but nothing matches it? Any suggestions?

Any ideas for yellow flowers or a bush with flowers like Yarrow, Baby's Breath, Queen Anne's Lace, etc. that
Yarrow does come in yellow. It is native in the white, A. millifolium.

Kerria japonica. Nice little shrub with puffy yellow flowers early in the year.

Forsitia too.

And calendula. Daisy like. Like the hear and don't need much water.

Marigolds?

Tidy tips (Annual), or Coreopsis (both annual %26amp; perennial spp.) are nice yellow wild daisy types. My lance leaf coreopsis have been blooming for a couple months now.

Have you seen the yellow Echinacea? Purple cone flowers with yellow petals.

And there is a Native "coneflower", Rudbeckia spp. that are very nice. Go up around Monterey and Pt Lobos.

Yellow eyed grass is a great little wildflower. Smal and Iris like.

And there are native Iris, the Pacific Coast Hybrids, in yellows and blues, and more colors.

Wish I could see the picture in your head so I might know what you want.

Maybe a large Sedum? Or Dudleya? Succulents that have yellow flowers on stalks.

Native Violets. Nice yellow flowers on groundcover like plants.

Know of any yellow flowers to plant in a full shade area?

I'm in Zone 5A and am tired of impatiens and hosta. They're pretty, but I want t some yellow or orange colors too!

Know of any yellow flowers to plant in a full shade area?
Pansies and Violas do well in shade. As do foxglove. Although with foxglove, the yellows have a tendency to become white and purple after a few years. Also - don't rule out Impatiens - look for some specialty varietys - different species. Consider "African Blondie" or "African Orchids" or "Mango Tango." (Burpee.com) Also consider Begonias.

The yellow will compliment the purples and blues from your hostas - if you let them bloom.
Reply:That is a trciky question as there are not too many common yellow shade plants. The best would be English Primrose as it comes in yellow but is just for cool weather(In SoCal; Nov thru Spring). Clivia comes in yellow now but the plants are pricey.

Goos luck :-)
Reply:Winter aconite, early daffodils, crocuses, trout lily. A lot of the early spring bulbs will do fine under deciduous trees. Azaleas come in screaming orange, but they need part shade, not full. White flowers are also great for brightening up shady corners, try Trillium grandiflorum and Astilbe, and speckled Toad Lily for fall...
Reply:The yellow woodland poppy(Stylophorum dyphyllum) is the perfect flower to plant in shade and for your zone. I love this plant it blooms in spring and for most of the summer here. I'm a zone 6.This is a native plant and is found in rich woodland areas. It is also one of my favorite wildflowers to photograph. They self seed easily so be prepared to share with friends!! GROW NATIVE!!!!!
Reply:helleborus i believe also come with yellow flowers, and they love shade.
Reply:If your not opposed to some small shrubs there are some azaelas that come in a variety of colors, but for specifically yellow try some day lillies. There are a few that tolerate part to full shade.

Which yellow cut flowers last longer?

I work for a store and yellow and white are the company colors we use cut flowers but end up buying them sometimes 2x-3x a week and I wanted to know what yellow and/or white flowers except roses (the owner doesn't like roses) last longer and stay pretty longer. We've found hydengea last a long time but zinnias droop shortly after buying them. Also flowers that are readily availible at flower markets would be good. Any advice would be helpful.

Which yellow cut flowers last longer?
Hmm. I think water plants live longer as cut flowers. Could you try a Yellow Flag Iris?

Does the wild form of marijuana in WV have little yellow flowers?

I saw a plant growing almost everywhere when I visited WV recently, that looks like mj, with pointed multiple leaves like the mj I've seen before, but these have little yellow flowers, which did not have much, if any potent, resiny smell typical of culitvated mj flowers. Is this the right plant? if it is, there is nothing for the gov't to worry about. No one would want to smoke it.

Weed with small yellow flowers?

I assume this is a weed, because it grows fast, and quickly gets taller than the grass. If you try to uproot it by pulling it, the stem will break. I think this is a very common weed, but I don't know anything about weeds, and just want to know what it is. Each grows at a random place in the yard, and they tend to not be close to each other. It has small yellow flowers, which seem to bloom constantly.

Few miles south of the Ohio river in west central Kentucky.

Weed with small yellow flowers?
Buttercups...
Reply:Sounds like buttercups which come in many varieties including the tall ones or it is Field Cress. Does it smell spicy and the stems are juicy when broke it's prb Cress and it is actually a very edible green if you cut them while they are small before they flower. Buttercups are hard to break the stems and are poisonous to cattle. If you see them growing in a pasture you will notice the cows won't eat them.
Reply:Hello fellow weed picker,

The first weed that comes to mind is of course the Dandelion. Its stems grow taller than the grass, and it has yellow flowers. This plant was brought over from Europe and was used as salad greens. It is high in Vitamin-C, however, don't eat it now, since the today's suburban gardens and lawns have been oversprayed with poisons. The German name for Dandelion is "Loewenzahn" or lion's tooth because of its jagged leaves. Perhaps this will help identify the plant.

If this is not the weed in question, here is something else I found for you.

Burclover "Medicago polymorpha"

Pea family; summer annual. Seed leaves oblong; first true leaf rounded with single leaflet; later leaves with characteristic clover-like shape and usually have reddish-tinged midveins. Small, bright-yellow flowers form in clusters at the end.

** If you need to see pictures, go to the internet and write the individual weed's name and asking for a photo in the search box, and you shall see. Hope this helped.
Reply:I can`t improve on the Capt`s answer. 2 4 D with some soap might take care of them.
Reply:If it is truly not a dandelion, it could be yellow hawkweed. It is a little early for hawkweed but you can check a picture and see if it fits.

Reply:hey, I'm in KY and a little east from you and we get the same flowers.... stupid little allergy provoking flowers is what they are, and the only way to make them go away is to feed them to a goat (or you could use a weed killer)

i think the one you are describing is a plant is "Hairy galinsoga" it is covered in tiny white hairs and has a yellow daisy like flower

you can order a "field guide" for weeds of Kentucky through UK's college of agriculture, and it'll help you out with the control... but i have lived in this state for 10 years now and i tried for 6 of them to control the weeds before i just bought a damned goat, so now i only deal with the ugly weeds in my yard and not on the acreage.... and by dealing with the ugly weeds in the yard i mean i run them over with the lawn mower or spray them with round-up

Reply:It's a dandelion, they grow fast and tall but die off shortly after the heat hits. This little bugger infiltrates every ones front yards around here and it's kind of nice to see yellow flowers every where but they are weeds and after the flower dies, your looking at ugly old stemmy and bushy weeds.
Reply:My guess is creeping buttercup. Grows very fast, is extremely hard to get rid of. They even sell a herbicide specifically for it. The reason it's randomly all over is because it has rhizomes that grow under the soil. If you break off any of the root, it makes a new plant. I battle them constantly.
Reply:It sounds like dandelions.
Reply:Does it get quite tall, and bushy? It could be wild mustard. The city plants it around here(NM) to bind the dirt during windy conditions. And of course the seed has blown everywhere but they have a small yellow flower

Reply:Could be a thistle.
Reply:2-4-D broadleaf weed killer will take care of anything like that. It is available at co-op.

Need to idendify a vine plant with dark green foliage, small pink and yellow flowers that grows peas.?

This appears to be a wild vine of some type growing in my backyard in Texas. It is fast growing and has dark green "spade shaped" foliage and began to shoot out long green "sticks" from the vine, the end of the sticks began growing small pink and yellow bowl shaped flowers. After the flowers started blooming some pea pods started growing out from the flowers. Some of the pods are about 2 inches long and the others are still very young and small. Can someone help me to Identify this plant?

It is called a sweet-pea (lathyrus)

A beautiful biannual in most parts of the USA.

You will find it quite common along country roads, planted years and years ago by pioneers and it has traveled over the years by irrigation. easily self sowing and the fragrant in spring is spectacular!

God Bless

Reply:I was ready to agree that what you describe is a sweet pea, but because you also mention "yellow bowl" I really believe it is a native plant known as goats rue (Tephrosia virginana) It has bi-colored flowers pink wings, yellow standards.

What are those yellow flowers across English fields?

While travelling from London to Bath this weekend, we've spotted loads of fields with yellow flowers which formed a stunning landscape. Now we are just wondering... What are those flowers and what are they used to?

What are those yellow flowers across English fields?
This is rape seed, brassica napus in Latin.

It is used mainly for vegetable oils and animal feed, but also for organic fuels such as biodiesel, which is a cleaner alternative to fossil fuel generated diesel because it is biodegradable and non toxic.

The view from my bedroom window as a kid and teenager was a checker board of yellow fields of rape and green grass meadows with cotton-wool puff-ball sheep and lambs.

Oh idyllic, beautiful, pastoral England

Ooops, sorry, got carried away. Don't try to look up the poem to see who wrote it by the way, I just made it up now!
Reply:It's oilseed rape which is used to make oil, surprisingly enough! It's the bane of beekeepers as bees love it, and it gives the honey an oily, distinctive taste.
Reply:What fields like this....check out the link.

Yes our country side is beautiful, especially early for the time of year, but yes as answered above, they are rape seed fields.
Reply:rape seed oil very good for you , but don`t mistake them for daff`s.
Reply:Hi this is called 'Rape' it is left until it turns black and then cut and the oil is used to make vegetable oil and other sorts of oils. It looks great but not good if you suffer from hayfever! It is a cheap crop to grow with good success rates and farmers get reasonable return and is in demand so we see much more of this now than years ago.
Reply:They absolutely make me sneeze!! They are caled rape seed and they set ff my hayfever :-(
Reply:I think you are talking about oilseed rape or reap..

Its pretty gives people a lot of allergies..

and its an oil for cooking but have a look at the site for yourself..
Reply:It's called rape seed, and its used to make oil.
Reply:Rape seed and it's a bugger for hayfever sufferers
Reply:Rapeseed. Also all over Cambridgeshire. There are prettier sights - bluebell meadows, etc., but they don't generate as much money.
Reply:It sounds like rape. Rapeseed is very widely cultivated throughout the world for the production of animal feed, vegetable oil for human consumption, and biodiesel

Why did our brussel sprouts plant just turn into yellow flowers?

we love growing stuff we can eat so last year we planted some brussel sprouts for the 1st timw, all we have are lovely yellow flowers though, which ive left growing in the garden , but what went wrong

Why did our brussel sprouts plant just turn into yellow flowers?
What happened was, I stole your brussels! Yummy!! You have to plant them every year, even if your seeds said perennial, they are not really. They only get brussels the first year, and only the flowers the next, and then they sometimes fade out. If you wait till next year you might get some brussels back, but then you'll still get them only every other year. And that's IF the flowers are good seeders. Not always the case :o(. I'd plant them every year, or 2 years in a row every 2 years.
Reply:They are biennial. That is, they gow one year for produce brussells and the second year they flower/go to seed. Cabbage is the same way. You need to replant each year.
Reply:Maybe you planted the wrong seeds?
Reply:Briefly, the plants have gone to seed.Brussels sprout seedlings should be planted about now,to produce sprouts in the autumn.

They need planting very firmly and the soil should contain lime.

Last season was cold and wet, maybe the plants never got properly established.

It's advisable to remove and destroy the old plants, which will be harbouring pests and diseases like club root.
Reply:are they not a bit like strawberries, when its in flower then they grow into strawberries.
Reply:the plants start with flowers like many vegetables, and then turn to the vegetable after the flowers have pollinated.

Don't get rid of the flowers because then you won't get any crops.
Reply:Brussels sprouts are a challenge to grow. You need perfect conditions and maybe some luck as well. When you buy brussels sprout plants, they are often already stunted, and will not produce.
Reply:You most probarbly didnt give them enough water lol

When will my watermelon vine grow a watermelon? It is 2m in length and has small yellow flowers, but no fruit

A few months ago I planted two watermelons in my garden from seedlings. One has barely grown at all, the other has gone absolutely berserk and is at least 2 metres long and has 5 or 6 different 'arms' on it. A few yellow flowers have appeared recently, but no actual fruit to speak of. When (if?) will it grow an actual watermelon? Thank you

When will my watermelon vine grow a watermelon? It is 2m in length and has small yellow flowers, but no fruit
You have to wait for night temperatures to reach at least 50 degrees before the watermelon plant will start to produce female flowers, which is a tiny watermelon with yellow flowers just like the male flowers you probably have noticed on your plants. Once this occurs, it will not be long before the female flowers are pollinated by the male flowers, however depending on the variety of your watermelon, the fruit may not be harvestable for up to two months.
Reply:if you live in a very worm place have very good fertilize soil and vary moister not dry water melons need a Lot's water and heater and son should have fruit in 3Mont's.
Reply:the average time for the watermelons ive grown is 90 - 110 days. You still need to wait a month and maybe a half more. If your not sure if the watermelon is ripe, dont pick it. Wait. Ive done that to many times where i get so excited, yet the watermelon isn' t even ripe. You can even wait for the vine to die. Then your gaurenteed ripe watermelons, but make shure the fruits dont rot or even start to soften.

What are they - Huge yellow flowers fields in England 'n Europe?

On travelling from England to Europe, my mom notices huge stretches of yellow flowers. What are they? Their use? Wild plants or are they grown with purposes ?Thx!

What are they - Huge yellow flowers fields in England 'n Europe?
At this time of the year they would be daffodil nurseries fields, growing on the bulbs for sale next year. The only other flowers they could be is rape, but this plant is common in Great Britain, early summer.
Reply:It is a CROP rather than a flower, though it does have a bloom. It is called RAPE SEED and they use it to make oil. In the spring England, and a great deal of Europe, have massive carpeted fields of Rape Seed as far as the eye can see. The daffodils are lovely too - but they are along the roads, roundabouts, and homes.
Reply:Wordsworth wrote of such a thing.

I wandered lonely as a cloud, that floats on high o'er vales and hills.

When all at once I saw a crowd, a host of golden daffodils.

Beside the lake, beneath the trees, fluttering and dancing in the breeze.

Ten thousand saw I, at a glance, tossing their heads in sprightly dance.
Reply:Depends what time of year, could have been Rapeseed (grown for oil), sunflowers (grown for seeds and oil), or as the previous answer states - daffodils.
Reply:if its rapeseed, its a crop and its poisonous!! beware

How long until the veggies grow once you see the yellow flowers?

Im growing tomatos, yellow peppers, cucumber, watermelon... and some of the plants have yellow flowers, I was told that that is where the veggie will grow.. how long will it take once I see the flower? and how will i know when to pick it?

How long until the veggies grow once you see the yellow flowers?
The yellow flowers will only last 2 to 5 days, depending on the vegetable you are growing. As soon as the flower withers, look gently behind the blossom. IF IT HAS BEEN FERTILIZED (by a bee who carries the pollen from flower to flower, or by yourself, with a cotton-tipped stick) then there will be a small green button-like object behind the bloom. This is your veggie! The bloom will quickly fall off. It could take two weeks or more to grow to the size you want it to be, but it's lots of fun to watch it grow bigger every day!
Reply:Me, too! I've got peppers %26amp; tomatoes coming along! I often fertilize them all by brushing the face of each bloom with a Q-tip. Bees are scarce these days! Report It

Reply:By the way, the watermelon will take a much longer time to get to table size. You will know when it's ready by a large yellowish white spot on the underside, where it rests on the ground.

It may take the entire season to reach maturity, but I can't tell you how long exactly. Report It

Reply:If you planted them by seed the back of the package will give you a close estimate as to when they will be matured. It probably says something like 60 days to gestation or days to harvest. Yes the flower is where the veggie/fruit will form. Leave it alone, it will develop by itself. If you know what the veggie/fruit looks like in the store when you buy it, you'll know what a mature, ripened one will look like.
Reply:As the flowers bloom, note that there are male and female flowers. Only the females produce vegetables. The females will have a bulbous growth behind them and the male has just the stem. The time varies by vegetable...usually a few days to produce the bulb. Every fruit and vegetable ripens at its' own pace, but color is a good key. When the veggie is brightly colored and pulls off its' stem easily, it is ripe and ready for your table.
