Cymbidium orchid flower spike turning yellow.?

I bought a cymbidium orchid a couple of back and it has just started growing its first flower spike about a month ago. The spike itself is just about 5-10cm at the moment, however I have notice that it has turned from a healthy green to a yellow color. Is this normal or does it mean the spike is dying or dead?

For some varieties yellow stem is normal, for others it is not. . .http://images.google.ca/images?hl=en%26amp;rlz... http://www.ehow.com/how_2067062_grow-cym...

I hope it helps.
Reply:It is probable that some rot has formed at the base of the spike. Anaerobic fungi will attack if the base is to wet for to long.

Cease watering and only water when the orchid shows it needs it and then make sure the soil drains and drys quickly..

Hope for another spike.
