They looked like Poppies to me, too. Not the oriental one, though. Perhaps, Flanders Field Poppy or Shirley Poppy?
Reply:They look like ranunculi to me also.
Reply:These are poppies; the singular is "poppy."
Reply:It looks more like it is related to

Anemones

or

Ranunculus (single petal)

I have included some pix and links for you

Reply:theyre a type of poppy flower.
Reply:Well, I should have know you were a sharp puppy and would post here. I opened the first email and answered that and suggested you post here. Guess what the next email was in Home and Garden. I still stick with Poppy.

*** Although going back and looking at GrannyGrunt's links I must say, who am I to know flowers.... :-) Pine trees, Pecan trees, Grapefruit trees.... these I know. It's too hot in Texas to grow flowers..... sorry, I'm thinking Granny might be in the know!
Reply:I've never seen an Anemone that color and I've never seen a Ranuculus with so few petals. That leaves Poppy, the real clincher for me is the seed head forming in the lower right corner. RScott
