I just got a cactus and it appears to have a little yellow flower glued on it. It's fake, right? The tag refers to it as a "straw flower" so wait.. is it going to die or is it just a decoration? The type is "fairy castle cactus"
Do they sell cactus' with fake flowers?
There is a straw flower and it is real but looks fake. We ordered them all the time at the flower shop.I have never seen one on a cactus but doubt it is a fake flower.Look at a g arden center for the straw flower,I planted them last year.
Reply:its a fake flower i got a little catus for christmas liek 4 years ago and now its grown over the flower and i have not seen 1 flower bloom off its so yea its a fake flower
Reply:Like everything else at Home Depot, it looks a lot cooler than it is. Fairy castle will get a whole ring of pinkish flowers around the top of the cactus. It will only happen for a week a year and only on new growth.
Use cactus potting soil, cactus fertilizer, give it TONS of sun and dry air if possible. Water it as often as a normal plant from February to August, then only give it sips (no fertilizer) until Christmas. Then give it a big drink and enjoy the fairies and queens in the castle.
Reply:I know what you mean - many cactus blossoms look like a fake, but they are real.
They are fertilised and climatised before sale so that they will bloom at the time of sale. I can guarantee you that - unless you becaome an cactus expert - you will never again manage to get it to bloom at home.
Have a look at http://www.fguenther.de/kakteen/fotos1/f... for example, and you'll see that many blossoms look kind of artificial.
And don't pay attention to name tags. Any store, even high quality garden centres, just sell their cacti under fantasy names, or real names but apllied to the wrong plant. It is only in absolutely specialised shops that you will get the correct and complete botanical name and an appropriate "manual".
Reply:that may be a real flower. the flower on the cactus is a bright yellow just like the only you think is fake. take a photo of your cactus flower now and again in 3 weeks and them see if it grew or started to wilt. if it unchanges take another photo 1 month from then, and if it is still unchanged it is fake.
here is a page that tells a little about the fairy castle catus
